Hi all,
Just thought i'd start a thread for my first project that me and my lad are doing together. Nothing is set in stone as were in the planning stage at the moment (im trawling through the forum for ideas & inspiration).
Am based in the UK, so anyone over here that can point me in the right direction when it comes to buying parts i'd appreciate that
So far we have decided on the following
Upright cab
2 player
pc
And so far that is it. My lad wants to put in the cab a pc for old school games (ok thats for me, but i made him think it was his idea) an xbox, and possibly a ps2. The consoles are not set in stone yet as that will depend on if we can hook them up / placement inside / accessability
So far we have a cabinet lined up which is an old sega driving game that no longer works. The plan is to remove the internals, steering wheel and foot pedals and to turn it into a player joystick / buttons cab. The cab is in a friend of my wifes business lock up and im told he just wants rid of it to make some space. Failing that i have found a company on ebay selling empty cabs for £30
I have an old pc lying about the house that needs a couple of bits to get it running again and a 19" tft monitor that no longer gets used due to laptops. Should only need about £30 spending on it to get it running again and i have a brother in law that can work wonders with a pc.
Today i picked these up from a customer of mine.... im a window cleaner by trade and saw these by the bins. I asked if they were getting rid of them and if so could i have them for my arcade project. Customer was well happy and said it saved her a trip to the tip. Plan is to sand them down and repaint them once we have a colour scheme for the cab

Will post more when it happens .... time for some more lurking / researching before the family get home

Good luck on your cab build. Im sure you and your son will have fun building it.
Also, nice pickup with those chairs

The best vendor in the UK is Ultimarc (http://www.ultimarc.com/)

Depending on the quality of buttons you want, I'd buy a cheap set of controls off eBay and an ipac. I got a cheap set off eBay and it came with zippy sticks and nice quiet buttons.
I'm in the UK. Where bouts u from?

While not in the UK, I think these guys are in Germany, but they are good to deal with and have some cool supplies. I used them for some things I needed for my current project and I'm in the US. You might want to check them out:

Someone else already mentioned Ultimarc. They are awesome.
I'd also like to add a couple other good sources for parts. Not in the UK but they should ship there:

http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/ (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/)
And of course there is always eBay.
Good luck with your build!

Welcome!
i've bought most of my stuff over the years from http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/ (http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/) or their Ebay alter ego http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ARCADE-WORLD-UK?_rdc=1 (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ARCADE-WORLD-UK?_rdc=1). They are very well stocked and swift to deliver.
I would personally avoid getting a cheap zippy set of sticks and buttons (no offence to zippy lovers). my first buy was such and i regretted it after doing some more reserch.
Happ or sanwa are much better if you can stretch to it.
Oh and as for sanding and painting, please tell me you mean the stools, not the cats ;D

Must be something wrong with me. I've now got u360s and ultimarcs led buttons and definitely prefer zippys and cheap buttons!
