Title: Show me your 27" TV cabs
Post by: Well Fed Games on August 21, 2011, 01:26:58 pm
So I recently hit the jackpot and got an arcade-friendly 27" TV to put in my Midway cabinet that previously had a 25" monitor. For those of you who have 27" CRTs in your cabs, could you post some pictures or links to project threads? Would love some inspiration!

I have a 27" arcade monitor (KT-2914F) in my old MK2 cabinet.  It came without a monitor, and I happened to have the 27" laying around.  It fits, but BARELY.  I actually had to angle it in to get around some trim pieces that retain the front glass.  I also had to fabricate new mounts, but you could modify the original ones if you preferred.  It doesn't really look too big to me, but if you compare side-by-side to a normal Midway 25" cabinet, you'll note a distinct lack of bezel.

Here is my cab with a stripped down 27" TV I picked up from a friend.  The cabinet is based of plans from http://www.arcadecab.com/ (http://www.arcadecab.com/)

Nice, thanks for the pic of the mounting frame in particular.

Thx, I added to it by putting a "shelf" to the bottom to hold the PCB, but the frame built in the picture basically slides into a angled L bracket on the sides of the cabinet so it can be removed quite easily (the TV adds a crap-load of weight to it)

the easiest way of mounting a decased 27 inch tv set is using an old sega naomi mounting frame. all u have to do is replace the metal plate with a bigger plywood shelf and sometimes ( depends on the chassis size ) widen the rear metal brackets .

This is an old thread and I never really posted finished pics, but I put a 27" Toshiba vertically in this cab:

I also put 27" arcade monitors in two different dedicated 25" cabinets, my Soul Edge/Calibur and Golden Tee.

$20 midway universal cab in great shape. $20 27" Phillips tube. $97 Wei-Ya 827HR chassis. Maybe $40 into the control panel. Free marquee. Just needs glass, art and t-molding!   Project still underway.

Oh yea- the mount, that comes from a MakVision 27" which i swapped with a MS-32 mount to go in a sega cab. It fit nicely with a little grinding and drilling.

the Smash TV cab is pretty similar to that. Sounds like everybody is pleased with their 25" to 27" upgrades?

Yea, it works out good. Picture quality on the Philips tube is awesome. Sharp and bright. I did have to modify the horizontal output because by default it was about 2 inches too wide for the tube. This is done tinkering with the horiz coil and changing the horz output capacitor's value. It will be different for every TV tube.
