Title: SOLVED - Trying to decide on Gemei A330, Dingoo A330, Dingoo A320, or GP2x Wiz
Post by: Ginsu Victim on July 26, 2011, 08:09:43 pm
Those are the only ones in my price range of $100 USD and under, so I was just wondering what the consensus on these is. MAME and SNES are major factors for me, but video playback is not.

Opinions?

Honestly?

Buy a DS or a PSP.  They are pretty cheap now that the 3ds has come out and the vita is about to come out.  They support most of your various emulators and better yet, some actual games.  ;)

I know you can get a sd adaptor for the ds for under 20 bucks at this point.

I've got the Caanoo, which is basically the GP2X Wiz with a couple extra whistles and bells and I love it.  Lots of emulator support and easy to load roms and emulators.  My vote for your price range is the GP2X Wiz.

I already have a DS, but wanted a new gadget to play around with. The PSP still isn't cheap enough.

I've been leaning toward the Wiz, since it has a lot of support and is reviewed well.

Thanks for the replies so far.

In that case, I agree the Gp2x.... it seems to have a lot of OFFICIAL support from the emulation community (for example, the daphne guys are working on a port) the others... not so much.

Thanks. I was just watching a few YouTube videos and it seems like the more current emulation on the Wiz is quite nice. It looks like that's what I'll go with.

GP2X Wiz is probably the go, since a lot of the emulators would have been carried over from the GP2X I would imagine. Therefore lots of time has gone into them. I have the older GP2X, and MAME and SNES emus are great on it (",)

I just ordered the GP2X Wiz. It's on sale at Thinkgeek right now for $99 (marked down from $150).

I think so, I just don't have a cable for it.

Have a related question and didn't want to start a new thread.

The GP2x Wiz doesn't seem to be available anymore (or maybe I'm not looking in the right places).

The Dingoo's and the Gemei's are.

My question is on Rom's.

With the Dingoo or an Android device, you can run Dingux or Mame4Droid, so you know the MAME version and the romset to use.

Gemei has it's own built-in emulators and no easy way that I know of to know what version they are based on.

Is it just a matter of trying different roms and hoping something works, or is there a way to know what to use.

Understandably, GBA and SNES roms are pretty static, so it doesn't matter, but MAME has had different sub-roms for different versions.

Thanks in advance!!!
