Title: LCD Monitor Upgrade for Megatouch Maxx
Post by: Usul on July 19, 2011, 06:13:23 pm
Hi folks,

I would greatly appreciate your advice/opinions: I have an old Megatouch Maxx upright cabinet that I converted into a nice looking Jukebox (custom marquee, luminglass etc). Now the 19'' CRT monitor needs to be replaced - I definitely like to go for a high resolution LCD to run new software - and I can't get my head around what to do...

Option A - LCD Replacement Kit from Happ
+ perfect fit: would allow me to keep the bezel
- very expensive: nearly 600$ -  can't find a used one in Europe

Option B  - standard LCD touchscreen
+ cheaper, could get a nice All In One Pc for the money of option A
- Mounting the monitor and cutting the bezel will be the challenge. May lose the curved design as well as the pleasing look of the bezel.

Thanks so much!

in all honesty, the happ kit is a little hokey to begin with. i installed it on a megatouch radion machine. although it looks okay, the the bezel gets filled with a plastic surround that just gets double sided taped on to make the curved bezel flat to mate up with the LCD. you could probably find some 6 or 7mm thick foam tape and trim it accordingly to fill the gap and have it still look okay.

you may be able to contact someone at happ and see if you could just purchase the bezel mod part and then use your own screen.

19" CRT VGA monitors are easy to come by.... then reuse the touchscreen overlay and bezel that's already on your existing monitor.  ;D
