I am trying to recall a horizontal shump I played back in 1995ish at a hole in the wall arcade. It was a lot like "Area 88" where you could select a character/ship and upgrades were available after each level. It might even be Area 88, but after playing through the first few levels it doesn't look or feel exactly the same. I remember thinking how "Japanese" it looked and played (if that helps...).
There are just to many shumps to try out, hopefully someone will know the name.
Thanks.

If memory serves me right, Area 88 was called UN Squadron in the US, which came out in 1989.
Jaleco made the P-47 series which is similar, with one inferior looking game coming out in 1988, and a better P-47 Aces in 1995. Maybe that's the one?

"Upgrades after each level" doesn't really match Progear. Great game though.

I have a carrier air wing in my garage, pretty fun shooter IMHO. (My first cab...)
