Title: anyone have a foldable poker table?
Post by: hulkster on September 02, 2003, 08:10:58 pm
my brother showed me something he got for christmas last year, and its basically a foldable poker table top that you put on any card table.  looked really cool and i found a couple of sites that had them.  i was wondering if anyone has one of these or knows anything about them.  are they any good?  http://www.pokeroutlet.com/ptt.0.html

Yeah I've seen those before.  A good lower cost alternative to more expensive card tables.  Although if poker is a ritual, you may want to invest in the more permanent table.  But if you want to host the occasional game (or don't have the space for a poker table) they're pretty good.

thanks for the response!

no im not a huge poker player, but im forseeing wishing i had one when the time comes...even if its only once a month or so. obviously the full table would be so cool, but those are very expensive, and i already have a card table or even a nice wooden table, but one thing im worried about is if i put the poker layover thing down onto a table...will it move around?  will people be able to their elbows on it and it not tip over?

Don't have one, but...

The two sided ones probably can slide a little with felt on both sides.  The one sided ones... depends what's on the bottom.  I think, however, in both cases, laying a layer of that stickly, no-slide, mesh paper (not sure of the name, usually found in the kitchen department) between the poker top and the table will help, if not stop, the sliding.

As for tipping, it would be best if the table underneth is the same size as the poker top.  The farther the edge of the poker top is from the table, the easier it is to tip (more leverage).  The heavier the top, the table could be a little smaller, up to a point.  However, flipping all the chips is Not Good, so I'd make sure the table is the same size to reduce the chance as much as possible.  (notice how the tables under the tops in the pictures are as big as the tops?)

*shrug*  But this is all hearsay.

well i think you can buy all the materials at a certain site (of course) but id rather just buy one. ;D  and yes i know you were kidding.

but the mesh paper stuff sounds like a good idea, i know what your talking about, just need to find a big sheet of it, or ill have to buy little ones.

You can usually find the mesh in rolls some where between 12" and 18" wide in the same sectio that they sell shelf paper.

If you go somethere that sells area rugs, you can find a simular material that is much wider.

I have one and it's great! We have a small kitchen so having an extra table in the basement is nice, that's why I didn't get the real deal. I bought the table with the folding top and four chairs at Furniture Fair. Since it came as a package with the table (the folding top is available seperatly) it is the exact size of the table, flipping it isn't a concern. It doesn't slide at all. Best of all, it's a great solution for a basement because it's dust free! When I'm done using it, I just fold one end over the other and leave it on the table, no dust get's on the felt that way.
