Looks like the wii will be $150.00 starting in may.

The consensus on the first link you posted is that they're more likely clearing out the old bundles for some new ones and the second link doesn't bring me to a story about Wii prices at all.

Does it really matter?

The wii isn't especially expensive and if you haven't bought one by now you probably don't want one.

That's because Nintendo plans on releasing a new console.  According to this story, they plan on announcing it at this year's E3, with a projected release around late 2012.

The next big N (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/04/14/new-nintendo-console-at-e3.aspx)

How convenient, they're claiming to release this console after the world is suppose to end.

Gee, I wonder which tired Zelda game they'll rerelease on it...

I'm sorry about your medical condition.

They do have ointment these days though that will relax the bowel muscles.  That stick should fall right out!

The real funny thing is that his statement has some creedence to it.

Indeed it does.  They are pretty much running out of remake options.  So probably none.  Unless it's a new version with changed dungeons like Master Quest was for OoT.  Which is easily possible.

This story suggests this new console could even hit at the end of this year.  Which I would find odd, as the new Zelda is slated for later this year.

$400 price tag, $80 controllers, better graphics than current gen systems? (http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-20056380-17.html?part=rss&subj=news&tag=2547-1_3-0-20)

Sounds like Nintendo is determined to nail their own coffin shut, though.

Agreed.  If it doesn't tromp the PS3 and 360, it will be a "Dreamcast scenario".  But it will push up the release schedules for the other two, so as to thwart a possible foothold in the market.

Glomming a screen onto a controller isn't innovation, it's an attempt to cover for the lack of it.  Let's hope the rumors are just BS.

you're all just speculating on speculation. Who knows what's really in store from the big N. One thing's for sure, it will be hard to top the sales of the Wii...

Nintendo console are designed for small children and women.  Cute and simple.

With Xbox and PS3 holding off until 2014 before a new release, the only two contenders out there is the new PSP and IOS/Android Platforms.

It will be some time before we see developers delivering the full capabilities of the Xbox and PS3.

A the moment is all about bloat and bad gas with crappy titles.  Kinda like recent Mame.  ;D

Not really. Two titles I've enjoyed on the wii (language warning)

sega mad world (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4e_r8ILvuiA#)

House of the Dead : Overkill - Story Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziRD5dIezYM#ws)

"Putting the 'hot' into 'shotgun'  ;D

At the moment I'm really digging Call of Duty: World at War on the Wii as well. Graphically, it takes a hit obviously, but waving a gun around instead of waggling a thumbstick or rolling a mouse is a much more fun way to play a FPS (",)

I think people are projecting what Nintendo intended for this console, based on Nintendos past. It seems quite obvious that this time around, they really weren't aiming for one demographic when it comes to actual content. Yes, they were aiming for many first time console owners (as well as gen x who hadn't played consoles since they were kids). But what the developers did was quite obviously up to them

I wouldn't be surprised if they step up the complexity now they have a huge Wii audience.  Just like the 2 button NES was stepped up to a 6 Button SNES setup and more in depth games.  I'll be interested to see what they come up with.

I'm excited to see what Nintendo comes up with.  To be honest though, I'm the type that waits until consoles have been cracked so it'll be a while before I buy one I'm sure...

I haven't read anything about backwards compatibility, but I'm assuming that Nintendo would be crazy to jettison what consumer base they've retained over the years with the Wii by not at least having it be backwards compatible.  In addition, by making it Wii compatible, they then have a good motion control system to use on it.  So my thoughts are it will be Wii compatible.

Even though the Wii and GC are very similar, I'm guessing that unless it's a very simple and cheap addition, it won't be GC compatible.

Agreed. Also, to make it GC compatible, they'll have to have those controller ports on there, and it's just getting a bit too far away to bother with. Hardly anyone would use them. Also, don't they essentially have a 'GC on a chip' in the Wii? If they have both compatible on the next console, then that's two 'consoles on a chip'.

5 bucks says it'll be compatible on with Wii (",)

Yes and yes.

PBJ means having the Wii controllers work with GC games.

Ahhh. Gotcha. Thanks.

At the very least, they could have let you plug the GC controllers into the Wiimotes or something.  Or let you use the 'classic' controller for GC games.  I remember reading a few years ago that it was sheer laziness and poor implementation on Nintendo's part on how the Wii handled GC.

Thats ridiculous that the wii classic controllers dont work with the GC games. Just more things to buy...

Danny, I use my GC controller parts all the time, whenever possible.  Smash Bros is meant to be played on a real controller.

Yes, I take your point. I use mine mostly for Crazi Taxi. Problem is, Nintendo don't even make gamecube controllers any more. Why would they have ports for a controller they don't make that is two generations in the past?

Or they could just make the controllers work with Gamecube games like they SHOULD have done on the Wii.

 :soapbox:

Again. More work for little gain. Of the 80 million or so consoles they sold, how many owners would be fussed about using wii controllers on gamecube games? That's a pretty small demographic they risked marginalising. I'm quite grateful they did what they did to be honest. It was my first current gen console, and I got to sample some gamecube games. How many PS3's can play PS2 games?

edit: Some good reasoning for why controllers with screens makes sense:

That article was kinda funny. They had two white kids, an asian kid, and a mexican kid. All they needed was a black kid, and it would have been a 100 percent PC ad.  :lol

Not even a little sold on the concept.  It has a few uses for a few genres.  For instance, you could play card / board games, pick plays in sports games and select attacks in RP fighting games without others seeing your hand.  You could also opt to play on a tiny screen when there is a 40"+ one right in front of you.  Outside of those two scenarios, one of which isn't very appealing, I'm not sure where all the "mass appeal" will be coming from.

But Kinnect and 3DS are the best things ever?

Not if you intend to base a "next gen" system on them.  There had better be some meat to go along with those potatoes, and an option to just have the meat.  If N ends up making people pay $80 for extra or broken controllers, just to have the extra screen, it's liable to be a strike against the system.  You already see folks who would be interested in the additional power the 3DS can offer, but don't want to pony up the extra money that pays for the 3D aspect.  As the two can't seem to be separated, the units can't seem to be separated from store inventory.

Sounds like they're trying to expand on the ol' Gamecube + Advance combo there.

I dunno, I'm more for durability than gimmicks. I've busted my share of controllers over the years. I can just see that screen becoming unusable in a hurry.

I kind of wonder how much horsepower that thing is going to carry. Are we going to see some kind of Tamagotchi-like games on this thing?

Looks like it: (http://wii.ign.com/articles/116/1162045p1.html)

Players will actually be able to stream game content to the controller screen from the console. It's unclear at this time what type of content it will be, whether it's full games you can take with you on the go, mini-games or applications.

The "Stream" moniker makes more sense then.
