I figured there would be a shorter list of the games in mame that can't be set to free play than the list of the games that can be set to free play.
Does anyone have such a list?

No. Why in the world would you want one anyway? Are you planning on not putting coin buttons but putting 2 function buttons instead? Because this is the only way that would be useful as for every game you'd have to go into the configuration menu and set it to freeplay, then reset. As we are past the 4000 rom mark that doesn't seem like a viable plan of attack.

There was a place by me that used to hold birthday parties (it was called OUR PLACE II -- though I never seen any OUR PLACE I). It was basically an arcade. They'd set the games to free play but some didn't have that option they'd just load up a bunch of credits.
But I digress -- some games come with the free play option, some don't. You're better off getting a coin door or adding coin buttons.

The local rec center in my town has a Ms. Pac set on freeplay. Needless to say it has the worst screen burn I have ever seen. (Ms. Pac on freeplay displays a static screen).
They also have a Golden Tee, which oddly enough is always loaded up with hundreds of credits. You would think that Golden Tee has a freeplay setting.

Golden Tee does have a free play option. You have to enable the dipswitch menu, then go to operator adjustables.
You can also disable the timout feature too - so you can grab a beer at the bar with out losing your turn.
I haven't seen one like that out in a long time. You have to have a friend do the "left" "right" "left" "right" crap until you get back! ;D
