I have a Ms pacman cocktail clone.
It has a Sony monitor A51LDG50Y.
The screen was discolored on the corner about 1 inch in is discolored. Typically a simple degaussing would cure it. What odd is that when game is open up the screen is free of any discoloration. Close it up it's there again.
What I am thinking is there might be something in the case that might causing the corner of the screen to act that way.
Do you think there is something wrong with the guns inside the monitor that stops it from working face up or do you think there is something kicking a a high enough magnetic field to do this. The only thing close in the corner is the mother board a few metal clips ( which I took out ) and the mother board. This unit does has a Happ switching power supply ( It looks like an old PC power supply )
Anything helpful will be greatly appreciated.

Remove the monitor and manually degauss it. Keep in mind there is only one way to properly do this. If you do it wrong, it will not help the problem....possibly make it worse. Make sure there is not a speaker with a large magnet in the cabinet. This is *important*.....'specially in a cocktail cabinet where space is cramped. They used those "cheap" alnico slug magnet speakers for a reason....because the alnico slug mag is very focused within the VC gap and doesn't throw much stray magnetism around.

Don't use car speakers or anything with a large grey "ring" magnet. Those shouldn't be within 3' of any kind of monitor....
If you can find a 6x9 speaker with a neodymium magnet, that *may* work....but I can't say for sure since I've never had to try it. They would look very similar to the alnico version, but I have no idea how much stray field they have.

There is something that makes this monitor go funky in the corner. It could be the speaker but it's on the other side of the cabinet (I will remove it and see what happens) . When I tilt the monitor out the corner cleans up. So either the monitor doesn't like being tilted up or two there is something magnetic that causing this issues. Since it's not an Original but a rebuilt form Orange County Games I dealting with odd parts. While the case is well built it does need a ground strap.

Maybe you have a source of magnetic field in that corner then. Maybe just move the game?

Just had a chance today to remove the speaker today.
Woo hooo not more problems.

I'm all for Michael J. Fox. I think he's a great guy. But I'm slightly disturbed by the fact that his face is a default profile on this site. :burgerking:
