I finally built my arcade stick with a hacked wired controller. I put 8 buttons on it and used a .080 thick piece of aluminum for the panel and a plastic rubbermaid storage box for the base. Works great however Im not so sure about the best button layout to use for easy compatibility with most 360 fighter games.
And I'm not even sure what the best button layout to use for each of the games. I'm would like to match the button layouts to their respective arcade counterparts. The only game that I really know the proper button layout is Street Fighter IV at this point.
I am a newbie at fighting games but have been enjoying them a lot.

In the process of building mine now http://twitpic.com/4990fa (http://twitpic.com/4990fa)
The most common layout I've come across is :
X Y RB LB
A B RT LT
(It's the default for the TE sticks) - Shouldn't be the end of the world no matter what you choose though as you can reassign the buttons - I've seen some as follows for example:
LB X Y RB
LT A B RT
Hope this helps!

That sounds like a good plan, using the TE stick layout.
Now do most games support 2 different layouts for the button layouts for 2 different sticks? I just got a Tekken arcade stick but that will just be for friends to use but I would rather use the TE stick layout. The Tekken stick layout is different.
Is there a site/webpage that has the layouts for various games, like showing the arcade button layout for Soul Caliber, Virtua Fighter, and so on? That way I can properly match up the arcade layout to my arcade stick layout.

What difference dies it make? You can assign buttons in all those games

The difference is that I want to replicate the arcade experience. I have a couple of friends who love fighting games but whom are purists and I want to have the various fighting games configured to be like the arcade versions so when they come over to play, they won't get frustrated or annoyed.
And some 360 games have default setups for arcade sticks which would make it easiest enough to configure, no need to bother manually setting the buttons for those games but my stick would have to have a commonly available button layout for the default setup to coincide.

It doesn't matter. You can reassign keys. Lets say you have two rows for street fighter IV:
x Rt B
Lt A RB
or something non-sensical like that, you can go in and reassign x to jab, RT to strong, and B to fierce. It doesn't matter

For most "Out of the box" compatibility without the need to reassign the buttons for each game, the TE layout I mentioned above will probably be your best bet. You do only need to assign the buttons once though so it's no big deal.
