Title: Help me design my game room layout
Post by: paigeoliver on August 25, 2003, 03:39:09 am
Ok, here is the floor plan of an apartment I am considering, I am trying to figure out if all my games/furniture will fit in the living room, and if so, then how will they fit.

I don't do television, so there is no entertainment center to worry about.

Must have furniture includes a couch, a chair, and a coffee table.

Here are the games.

Kangaroo (both sides immaculate, would like one to show if possible).

Crystal Castles (sides don't have to show, as both have a bit of damage).

Battlezone (both sides immaculate).

Amazing Maze (both sides immaculate, 26" wide instead of the normal 24").

King & Balloon (mini 22" wide, no sideart to worry about).

Victory (Pinball machine, standard size).

If room allows, then I will add in another cabinet, which is a 22" wide one. I was planning on putting the Time Pilot in the kitchen as a kitchen table.

Other things I would add given room include a bookshelf, and an end table.

Well...
I'm not much of an interior decorator, but here is a scale drawing w/ all all the stuff crammed in there...
I'm sure you could find a better layout, but eh... I'm an IT guy, not a decorating guy!

You could just mess with the layout by moving these things around in and image editor...

I am just making a wild guess that if he is looking at a 1 bedroom apartment of that size he is not married.  Women take up WAY more room than video games.   ;D

BTW, good luck getting those cabinets up that stairwell, I hope you took some measurements first.  Unless you have an elevator in the building or live on the first floor you may have some trouble.

It says "Garden Apartment".  That usually implies that it is at gound level of partially below.

Wo!:o

That was wrong... Abuse me, make fun of me, ridicule me... But don't go talking about my wife!
(Although I gotta admit... That was kinda funny... as long as it's not about my wife...) ::)

Speaking of wives, one of the very first things I ever work into a conversation with a girl is tricking her into agreeing to let me keep my games if we get married.

Usually goes like this.
Quote
Me: Well, yeah, but I figure I will only have them until I get married.

Unsuspecting potential wife: Huh?

Me: Well, most women don't want them in the living room.

Unsuspecting potential wife: Oh, well you can just put them in another room, or the basement or something.

The exact last line varys slightly from girl to girl, but they always end up saying SOMETHING that in effect gives me permission to keep the games. So far all 3 girls I am even mildly interested in, have all fallen for this trick. It is best to do this VERY EARLY (ideally before you ever even go out with the girl), before the girl has enough time to imagine herself in the wife position, and thus think before answering.

Why not get rid of 3 or 4 of them. I mean, King and Baloon and Kargaroo are pretty naff games. How often do you really want to play those? A single MAME machine would be far more entertaining.

umm, the King & Balloon is a vertical 4-way Mame cabinet, and the Kangaroo could be a museum piece. The Amazing Maze is also a Mame cabinet. If I were to ditch anything it would be the Crystal Castles. It is maybe a 7 out of 10 at best, and will never clean up to better than an 8.

I love how your plans for your future home/apartment are determined by your arcade machines, rather than vice versa :)
