Title: MEMEWAH Feature request..
Post by: JoeB on August 24, 2003, 12:56:41 am
This program is amazing.. really great.. but it is lacking in one small spot.. finding the game fast!

Can a just page up / down please be implemented?? It's really long to scroll through 300 games on my machine, when I know the game I want to play is X-Men: Children of the Atom..  :)

Maybe button 5/6 or ability to assign features to buttons??

Thanks.

Page scrolling is already implemented. To scroll up a page push Left on your Joystick and to scroll down a page push right!!

I believe up and down on the second player controls also allows you to skip from the top of the list to the bottom in one go. Helpful for those 3000+ Mame Romsets.

If I remember right P2 joystick up/down moves through the list 100 games at a time.
P2 joystick left/right moves through the list 500 games ata time.
That should get you where you want quicker.
If that's not fast enough, you can go with custom lists.

I do kinda miss the old favorites list Minwah had in older versions.  If I stumbled across a game and loved it, I'd just hit P1 buttons 1 & 2 together and it would get added to my favorite list.   That was a cool feature we lost a while ago.

Correct :)

Sorry about the quick add-to-favorites key thing...I will be adding something like this back when I can, probably when I need to do the same in my cab!

FWIW I removed it due to the customisable keys - this cannot handle shifted keys atm.  I didn't want adding/removing favorites to be too easy, in case of accidents - any suggestions?

one option, albeit not the most subtle, would be to use a dedicated key. People who would want to add favorites could add a button, no? I don't know if its even possible depending on how many unused buttons are in MAME.   It definitely is not the best way, since it would necesitate adding another button, but it would avoid accidental additions to your fav list.

Just a thought.

I would like to see something even more configurable and broader than an add to favorite button.  I was thinking more along the lines of press button x to add to list y.   I made a list of all the 3+4 player games in mame and that would have been useful.  I would keep remove from list the same.

How about for now just a shortcut key to bring up the 'Select Custom List' menu?

This would at least skip the '2' > Games List Options > Add Game to Custom List steps...

Does everyone have a pause button?
You could put in a mappable button and we could map it to our pause buttons in MAME.

Personally I don't need any of this.  But, I wouldn't mind if I could build a list with filters then add games on that list to my favorites list which doesn't seem to be allowed currently - at least not whatever version I tried it on last.

You're right, this is only possible from the 'main' list.  It shouldn't be too difficult for me to add this - unless there is a good reason I didn't add it in the first place!  I'll have a look into it tonight...

Done ;)

Haven't done the shortcut key yet tho...

Speaking of features..

is there any way to hide the emulators that aren't being used?? I use only 3 (MAME, SNES and Genesis) yet 20 show up on my list..

Apart from that.. LOVE THE PROGRAM!

Not at the moment.  But you are the second to mention this within 2 days so I'll have a think about it...

It is not a big priority for me though - use the '4' key to cycle emulators and you'll never have to see the 17 unused emulators ;)

Hey, I've noticed this fact, and I wondered if it would be possible to actually config this so that you can use another button to switch emu's without going through the menu's. The reason being that I don't have 4 wired up to anything, and my cab consists of 12 player buttons, 1p/2p start and coin buttons.

I'd like to reconfigure it so that I can use one of the control buttons or so. (maybe instead of using the 1p button as the equivalent of "enter" in the menu, i'd like to use that to skip emu's, and actually use a control button to navigate the menu's. (2p would still bring up the menu though)

Go into 'Control Options' > 'Customise Controls' and you should see 'Cycle Emulator' (or similar).  Just remap to whatever button you like :)

I have a request,

How 'bout auto generated lists, such as last XX games played, or most frequently played games...

Oh, and seperate volume levels for music and sound :)

I'm not keen to do the most frequently played games list atm, because it would probably mean I have to change the format of the .LST files (big pain!).

Last XX games would be pretty easy, I'll make a note of it...

I can't do separate volume levels for music / sound the way I've coded the current volume control, since it alters the level in the Windows mixer.  ie all levels are altered, and music & sounds are typically wave output, so would both be affected.  I'm sure it is possible tho.  Do you find your sounds play too quiet or something?

Sometimes I like to have the music up loud, but the sounds can get a bit irritating when they are at the same volume.. so it would be nice if you can, not a biggie though..

I'm more interested in the autolists.. as far most frequently played, just a suggestion, you could temporarily use a seperate file to keep a list of number of times played, and eventually merge that into the lst files when you are ready. I think ArcadeFX? had this.. and everyone really liked it.. would be awesome over time to see the most popular games :)

Here's a request for you...I am using mamewah to execute an Atari2600 emulator and associated roms.  The Roms follow the Goodtools naming format such as:

Air-Sea Battle (1977) (Atari) (PAL) [!]
Air-Sea Battle (1977) (Atari) (PAL) [p1][!]
Air-Sea Battle (1977) (Atari) [!]
Air-Sea Battle (1977) (Atari) [o1]
Air-Sea Battle (1977) (Atari) [o1][h1]
Air-Sea Battle (32-in-1) (Atari) (PAL) [!]

The problem is when looking for artwork, the image name must match the rom name.  Thus I need 6 identical image files named slightly different to get them to appear.  It would be nice if there was a switch I could set the tells mamewah to parse the rom name up to the first '(' and then look for the artwork file that matched that name.  Thus I would only need 1 image file.

Thanks...

OK, I'll add it to my future-feature list.  This stuff I will probably have a go at after v1.0, and when my cabinet is complete.  No doubt I will find some of these things useful myself when I have my cab, so will be more keen to add it  ;)

If there were clone/parent relationship info for these roms it would not be a problem (it would display the parent image)...but it sounds like this is not available.

I can't add it atm but I'll put it on the list...
