Title: MAME not running - Video Error - Unable to complete window creation

I have tried everything I can think of, and still can not get this to work.  Everything load and seems to work fine until I launch a game, then I get the following:

Proposed video mode not supported on device \\.\Display1
Unable to initialize Direct3D
Unable to complete window creation

I have a P2, 400MHz, 256MB RAM
Windows XP PRO sp3
MAME .138
Mala Front End
DirectX 9
I have the latest video drivers for my integrated graphics (Matrox Graphics Productiva G100 AGP, 230Mhz, 8MB)
I have it set to 32 bit color
I have tried running the command line Mame, and I still get the same error messages, just in three separate windows, instead of one.
I changed the ini to Direct Draw, and still no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

P2? are you kidding? that kind of pc wont ever EVER...RUN MAME .138....forget'it.with P4 computers under 50 bucks this days, ill definitly go and buy one if you want to acomplish somenthing, otherwise, youll have to use mame 80'somenthing maybe .99 but not 138....

8MB video card ? i dont think even mame 80'somenthing will run on that......

I kinda figured my computer couldn't handle it, but I was running MAME .103 without problem, and a computer crash forced me to reload, and I decided to try to upgrade.

amazes me that your pc handled mamr 103.....go with it then

Agreed on the specs being a little low for newer mame versions.. but did you try DirectDraw over D3D? or perhaps even GDI?

GDI is ungodly slow. It's not really made for video anyways; I don't know why it's part of the line-up.

It's better to have a fallback than to simply crash out.  You can still do development with GDI ;-)
