Title: Changing settings for multiple games
Post by: GoTheBunnies on November 20, 2010, 10:49:10 pm
Hi all,

I've set up a 3-sided cocktail, and have used RomLister to identify all of the cocktail games that can play in Vertical mode - around 470 in total.

I now need to change the settings in each game so that the display is rotated 90 degrees clockwise, and the dipswitch is set to 'Cocktail'.  Rather than changing each game separately, there must be a better way. I know that RomLister has a batch file utility that may work for this, but I have no idea how to use it.

Can anyone walk me through the best way to change these settings in bulk?

Thanks

As I mentioned on the GameEx forums "autoror" should do what you want.

The cocktail dipswitch can be set using CFG Magician

Wanted to bump this thread, because I don't have a total solution.  I've sorted out part of the problem, and that's rotating the screen, but I'm still left with having to change the dipswitch in 470 games to Cocktail, and am looking for a way to do it other than manually for each game.  I thought CFG Magician was a possible solution, but at this stage at least, it's not working.

I now have a file that lists all the games I need to change (thanks to Romlister). There must be plenty of MAMErs out there who have had a similar problem - did you all change each game manually or is there a utility that will do it in bulk?

I did all of mine individually.
I also did it a few years ago, and there were significantly less games, or you've got all the clones in there too.

The reason for this is that not all games work properly for player 2.  Sometimes the screen flips but the characters don't, or the buttons are screwy or whatever.  (I reported the bugs that I did find)

It's a PITA for sure, but hey, you're play-testing games.  It's not like you're painting the house or similar.  Grab a beer and make an evening of it.  You will also get to know your machine better, you'll be able to visually inspect each game for resolution or volume issues too.

Yeah you're right, after spending weeks unsuccessfully looking for a solution to change them all at once (CFG Magician showed promise but wouldn't work for my dipswitch) I've started working through them individually, and it's the best option.  I used RomLister to identify the games that need changing, but by going through them individually and testing, I find that some don't do what the setting implies they will, so at least I can remove them from the list.  I'm up to letter 'C' - I could be an alcoholic by the time I'm finished!  ;)
