some times ago I've tried to configure my wiimote to work in MS windows, just to use it as a light gun with mame. I've desisted after a few hours because of the lack of a software that could detect the wiimote like a plug'n play device (glovepie was too long to configure for my taste), the inaccuracy of the pointer (using glovepie) and last but not least, the absence of a "real" light gun shape, wiimote.
Well, now I've found a user friendly software that detect my wiimote "on the fly" and seems enough accurate (using sensor bar) in desktop use, at about 1,5 -2 meters discance from the monitor (you can find it at this url http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1192317 (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1192317)).
I've also found a really badass (machine) gun with wiimote and nunchuk integrated...
... There's only one problem: the wiimote is not recognized by mame (probably because of the raw imput detection method used by the emulator)...
So I'm here to ask your help to solve the problem; any suggestion will be appreciated
----------------UPDATE---------------
I've tried it with an old version of mame that supports direct input and it works (quite) well: the pointing accuracy is not bad... the "feel" It's almost the same as using wiimote with a real wii to play on rail games.
Unfortunatly, wiimote buttons are not recognized by MAME; so, the controller works only as a pointing device.

Promising! Hadn't seen this app before. Downloaded and will check it out tonight.

where did you get the gun Valken? I didnt really read the link you posted to be honest(my being lazy) if it was posted there.
-
This is the gun I'm thinking about. All integrated, but still works exactly like a wiimote.

That Uzi looks cool, but I highly suspect it will be painful to play most gun games with. Most games utilize a pistol, which has a short barrel. If you use a longer barrel (especially one that's heavier), you will wear your arms out VERY quickly. If you use it how the actual gun is designed to be used, you won't be able to hit targets on faster movement games and will significantly handicap yourself IMO.

I've found it at a Fnac superstore, in Italy where (i live and) it's officially distributed. You can find a video of the machinegun in action here Classic Game Room E3 Report: RAPID SHOT Nintendo Wii Machine Gun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPInjtSqLwo#ws)

Holy crap, that gun looks awesome! Link? (not that I could import it to Australia looking like that)

This actually sounds like a really awesome idea. I read the link you provided, and have 2 questions. I don't know if anyone has the answers, but:
1) do you know is there any reason they are reccomend a $70 bluetooth adaptor? These things are generally cheap as far as I know.
http://www.meritline.com/mini-type-wireless-bluetooth-usb-adapter-class-1-bluetooth-v-2---p-26876.aspx (http://www.meritline.com/mini-type-wireless-bluetooth-usb-adapter-class-1-bluetooth-v-2---p-26876.aspx)
2) Why is the sensor bar optional? I don't get it. How would you even hook up a sensor bar to a pc? Do they mean that you need to hook up a wireless sensor bar via blue tooth?

$70??? Don't believe everything you read on the internet! It might have been $70 1 1/2 years ago (when adding taxes and shipping to AU) but if you follow the link, Dlink (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=34) has it for $29.99 in their store and Walmart (http://www.walmart.com/ip/D-Link-DBT-120-Wireless-Bluetooth-USB-Adapter/3609810) has it for $22.82 +$.97 shipping

The "sensor bar" is a misnomer. It does NOT sense anything. It just shines a couple of infra-red lights and it is the wiimotes that "see" these lights.
The Wii sensor bar was optional because he had a battery powered "sensor bar". I don't know what voltage the Wii feeds the sensor bar so I can't advise how to connect it to the pc. A wireless sensor bar is wireless because it is powered by batteries and it doesn't "connect" to anything. It just sits there shining 2 lights.
For the record I haven't tried to use my Wiimotes with my pc. I am happy with using them with the Wii only.
-
Thanks for the reply, Michael.
I figured the mention of a $70 Bluetooth dongle was just a plug for an overpriced product, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.
I didn't know the Wii sensor bar only sent an infrared signal, I thought it received one from the end of the wiimote as well. So, the sensor bar is optional, but it would be necessary to have something, even if that is just two infrared LEDs mounted in by the screen.
I am really interested in a wireless option for shooters, and this sounds like the cheapest route to go. I have a "non-invasive" mame-ing to my arcade cabinet. (Everything just routes through JAMMA and can be brought back to original in less than a minute, just by swapping out jamma plug and modular CP) I didn't do any shooter setup, because it would pretty much need a dedicated control panel.
-
I bought a Bluetooth dongle at Amazon about 2 years ago. It cost just $4 or $5 before shipping. I haven't had any issues with it.
-
Yeah, they are dirt cheap these days. I'm gonna go buy a usb bluetooth dongle and try this out. Probably not immediately though. If I figure anything out, I'll be sure to post it.
-
This would be a very interesting route if it proves fruitful. This could give us good controllers that have recoil and at reasonable prices. Hope it works out!

Just a little update:
WiiMouse author has released a new version of his software that supports wiimotion plus. He also releases a special controller type called "namedPipe": If I've understood right it is basically a dll that creates a named pipe server so that applications can connect to it and utilise the WiiMote.
Mybe, in the future we will see an official mame build with embended wiimote (i.e. lightgun) support ...
Meanwhile, I've kindly asked the author to tweak / modify his software to work properly with mame light gun games.
He said he's working on it... :applaud: (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1192317&p=9 (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1192317&p=9))
... keep your fingers crossed

Ahh damn, I was all excited for this and already got my hardwired sensor bar in the mail. Oh well I'll have to use it on my pc and other emulated games for the time being :)
-
I just got my bluetooth adaptor in, and the wiimote software seems to work great. So far, the only possible solution I can find is to recompile mame to force directinput. Looking back at previous posts to Headkaze from previous posts, can be done with his compiler. This is the only workaround I can think of to get a new version of MAME to read the input like the old versions could.

The only problem I think would happen that is that it will treat any and all mouse movements as the same thing. If you have a mouse trackball, it will see those movements as the same thing as the lightgun. I don't think it would be a problem in many cases, but I think there would be multiplayer lightgun problems going on with forced directinput.
The only other solution I see is finding a driver based Wii Remote utility for the PC, one that will treat the wii remote as a real Bluetooth mouse or bluetooth tablet. It looks like there are some other wii remote utilities out there, like WiinRemote or Glovepie, but I haven't had a chance to test them out.

I have connected mine with bluesoleil stack, and it looks like it is supported in dolphin.
-
So Vigo, you have tested this with Dolphin and it worked with light gun games? Anyone try it with NullDC or even NES for dunk hunt type games :)
-
Did anyone get this to work in mame?
-
Here's a person that is using GlovePie and 2 wiimotes. MAME for PC with 2 Wii-motes! - Point Blank 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd5Kai8PPHo#) I assume he's using PPJoy, DirectInput hack, or something similar. I borrowed a wiimote and while it worked in Dolphin, I couldn't get MAME to recognize it. I don't know if it was a configuration issue or not.
-
Any find a solution to get the Wiimote to be seen by Mame?
Using Wiiremote it actually tracks pretty well, but of course none of the buttons work and
I can't even figure out what settings to have the mame.ini so that the wii mote is seen as a lightgun..
Any assistance would be appreciated. I have seen that an older version of mame may be the answer.
-
Anyone know where to find a pre 1.17 Mame (32 bit) since this is when they implemented RAW_Input ?
Something with no-nag and hi score support would be awesome....
Thank you!
-
Ok I'm building a 1.16 Mame AMD64 optimized (Dual Core) 32bit version of mame with High-Score support diff.
I'll post a link and my findings after working to get two light guns working.
I am using Wiinremote, DLINK DBT-120 blue tooth adapter on my WinXP 32bit cab and bluesoeil stack

Hi, can someone please help me. How can I reassign button B to be left click and button A right click with the wiimote mouse software linked to in the original post?
