Title: Suggestions for a small trailer for arcade cabinets?
Post by: cmoses on October 07, 2010, 10:14:05 am
I am looking for a small trailer that can be attached to my tow hitch on my SUV.  I am just looking for something big enough to pickup arcade cabinets with.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've been running around with one of those 4x8 add-your-own-plywood deals from Home Depot now for...yeesh...15 years maybe? It's only now getting close to needing replacement.  They usually don't go for very much. Probably the $300 range.

Harbor freight has these as well.  I've seen them on sale for less than $200 ($164 was the cheapest ever).
They also have one that folds in half so it can be stored against a garage or shed wall.
A lot of assembly required.

Currently on sale for $180: http://www.harborfreight.com/870-lb-capacity-40-inch-x-49-inch-heavy-duty-utility-trailer-with-8-inch-wheels-and-tires-42708.html (http://www.harborfreight.com/870-lb-capacity-40-inch-x-49-inch-heavy-duty-utility-trailer-with-8-inch-wheels-and-tires-42708.html)
Sometimes you can find 20% off one item coupons in magazines.

Not a bad deal if you have a harbor freight nearby.
registration, tags, etc hassles  vary by state.

Words of wisdom: Get at least a 5 foot wide trailer. You will quickly find that no game is under 24". Most are around 26"-29" and you can't quite squeeze two side to side. Found that out after I had bought too much at an auction 2 hours away. Never knew that my van could hold that much equipment plus what was in the trailer.

I had no idea such a thing existed.  :o The HD I worked at had nothing remotely like this. The trailers HD has are slightly larger and a whole lot more expensive. I always thought these "wood" trailers were things that were put together by someone. Much like the truck bed trailers I see everywhere.

I have used several trailers and I like the one with a wood floor 100 times better.

The expanded metal acts like a cheese grater and really chews up anything that might be moving across the surface. Had a project cab and when taking it off the dolly it slipped across the metal floor and shredded the particle board.

Metal floors are good for lawn equipment to allow water and dirt to fall through but can allow wood items to be exposed to water and the likes.
