Title: First mame cab finished
Post by: quadrider1 on August 12, 2010, 01:29:00 pm
I have been looking around on this forum and decided to make my own cab, Its a basic cocktail cab with two ultimark joysticks, 4/8way, each player has 6 buttons and a 21inch monitor.
I was wondering if you guys saw ant problem with the design. Be easy though because im only 17 and no carpenter lol.

That looks great for a first cab!  I'm currently building a cocktail as well with a third side to it and i hope if comes out looking even half as good!  Only thing i see on first sight is ventilation.  Are there any fans or vents? Your cab might not even get that hot so it might not be a problem, but its always good to have to much rather than too little.  And also, have you played your cab a lot?  Is the viewing angle and everything ok, or do you get neck cramps or anything?  That's one of the concerns I have with my cab and i guess i wont know till i finish it.  But good work, it looks very nice, the wood look is very classic, and i like your top as well, is that a plexi cover?

you cant see in the pic but I have holes hidden under the cab itself and its hard to see but there are holes on both sides of the cab, but the top hides it unless your eye view is only under the lip of the top. And yes that is 1/8 inch clear plexi.

Thanks guys

Nice job.  Looks like you mitred the corners of the box - that's not easy to do!

Overall it looks good.

But I gotta ask, why the 6-buttons CP with a vertically mounted monitor? Are their any vertical games that utilize 6 buttons? Or is your emulator set to split and rotate the image for both ends?

I'm not sure I'm too thrilled about not having t-molding, or a coin-door...these are 2 things that I believe are vital for an arcade cab.

This is as "easy" as I can go...
Being 17 means you're probably in your senior year of High school right? Then you should have developed thick-skin by now to take a bit of criticism from a bunch of arcade geeks. Meet it head-on man, people you encounter in life are going to be harsh and you can't expect them to be as nice as us ;)

Looks nice!  Six buttons for a vertical setup seems like overkill, though.

So I take it your parents weren't arcade fans back in the day, huh? You couldn't fire up some of their old favorites and convince them to let you keep it?

well six buttons because i do have the screen split for some games like mortal combat and so on, and i tried everything to keep it. Reason for no coin door is because my price range, but if i ever make another one then i will take that advice and add one. Since i have to sell it then what do you guys think it could sell for, is 800 to much?

Seems a little high for the starting price
