Game wise, how limited would I be? I have an old Xbox 1 that is modded, and has a NES emulator running on it. Can visual pinball run on it?

It's really NOT a custom Pentium. It's a custom Celeron. It's a 733mhz Celeron with the front side bus speed of it's Pentium cousin. What your specs don't list is it's L2 Cache. It has a 128kb L2 Cache where the Pentium version would have a 256kb L2 Cache. :)

so... MAME worthy?
-
modded xboxes dont require a DVD dongle for movie playback and the specs are deceptive, because the PS1 emulator and N64 Emulator run terrific on the xbox, and I dont think they'd run well at all on a PC running similar specs

What is the best PS1 and N64 emulator available for the Xbox?
-
for N64 I use all 3, they all do certain games best (Project 64, 1964, and UltraHLE) and for playstation PCSXBOX
-
Great. Thanks, Malenko.
-
so... MAME worthy?
90% of the games run full speed.
fbaxxx pro is a better cps1/cps2/neogeo/shump emulator though. mainly because of the scanlines filter. games looks about as good as if it was running on a real arcade monitor.

interesting, there's a useless xbox waiting for a purpose.
Does this 90% include racing games? I recall there was interesting driving hardware on the xbox...
-
you dont need mame racing games............
there are enough xbox racing games. burnout3 alone > all racers combined. then you got outrun, midway racers, burnout revenge, flatout, random need for speed, midnight club racing, project gotham, etc etc..
-
Good info in this project thread:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=104475.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=104475.0)
Appears that most MAME games run a treat, and I've run plenty of emulators (including N64) on mine and they work perfectly.
Can't comment on virtual pinball, however.
-
BURN OUT REVENGE!!!!!
-
revenge is mindless "bash everything on your way" while BO3 plays like a standard arcade racing game. its like sega super gt....ON CRACK!!!!!
3 > any racer ever
they really need to make another one for xbox360/ps3 just like that with new tracks/car. get creative. add strange cars like in ridgeracer, cruisenusa, etc etc..

yeah... but if I wanted a console, I'd connect it to a TV.
XBOX games don't demand you insert coins, and the continue system really isn't the same.
There's that feel with arcades that's neat that you cannot recreate with a home videogame console... plus, the XBOX needs its optical drive replaced. lol.
but thanks for the info, I'll be looking for a joystick to hack, as my next cab will use XBOX. :)
-
3 > any racer ever
Definitely the most fun racer I can think of.
-

Ok, I'll bite...Why does it need replaced?

Yeah, that had me scratchin' the ol' noggin...
-
you never had a broken optical drive before? :dunno
Maybe I could do with a good cleaning... but still, in actual state, it can't read discs.
-
Oh, I read it as Xboxes in general, not your Xbox. I getcha.
-
just get a hard drive and you never to use the optical drive. have all your games in one place without ever swapping discs. another reason y people use xbox in arcade cabinets(I have 3 lol..media center, racer cabinet, fighting games cabinet)
-

same here.
With a modded xbox you dont even NEED an optical drive.
-
Okay, what is the best softmod for XBOX to play emulated games on? Can you use a windows Share Drive to access the games from?

Yes and No.
I would get CoinOPS X and you can install it on a stock Xbox hard drive, or you can call them from SMB (I do) for the complete .84 collection. You cannot call XBE games from the SMB though.
I stopped using Mame after .84 so all my favourites work 100% and I have all the arcade ambiance soundtracks with attract videos. The new version has support for console, but I keep them separate.
DaphneX is another worthy addition. I just put a 500GB HDD in my hard modded Xbox, and I have the ultimate media centre.
Actually I am stockpiling Xboxes as I get them for $20 now. Cheaper to put into cabs, simple to install.
The media centre capability out strips several in the $1000 market.
Don't bother with racing, mouse or paddle games. It is supported but isn't worth it.
-
interesting... I may get on CL this week and pick me up a XBOX and give it a try.

care to explain? yoru opinion might set me in a better path: I was thinking of using mine for mame racing games...

Well I asked the developer to look at restoring the settings in CoinOPS, (to be completely honest I have not tried it yet) to save the controller.ini settings. As the games are more suited for hand controls. Mouse games like Star Wars are playable on the controller, but using a device like Joy Frag doesn't really work, so you have to make a USB cable and try a mouse. That works. I have not tried steering wheels (I don't have one handy anymore) as the last one was a pig to mount. I like games like DOT and Star Trek, but I cannot save the settings, and I have to go into the game each time and change the dial settings. I'm sure that driving games are perfect for this platform.
Since I have not really tried it (will do today) it is still a PITA to get working. You could get the source and modify it yourself since the Xbox is considered now a dead platform, but you could not publish your result as it is still considered illegal. I would think if the change was made in the latest build, it would be a PC killer for Mame classics. My Xboxes have been running for over 6 years and they are whisper quiet, and consume less than 70 watts.
I will update on my findings.

Yep just checked it now and the settings are saved in CoinOPS X. :woot
Now the hard part is to find a ball mouse, as the optical ones are too sensitive, even if you put the dial values down.
I just tried Super Sprint and I could control it with a mouse fine, so your wheels should work properly.
Thanks for reminding me to test it out!

Dunno about proper driving wheels, that I don't think is supported.... but the wheel I use is a mod that connects to my spinner.
I'm just happy to play Star Trek on it without dicking about with the settings for ages. ;D
-

I'm confused...
:dunno
When was it not good to use a driving wheel on Xbox?
I had 2 wheels for Xbox (still have one), and there are a ton of racers to use with them.
-
driving wheel on MAME on XBOX... ?
unless I don't understand what dark_ader was talking about?
but I might simply use it for 4-way classics. Seems to be a charm to use for that.

Ahhhh...
I see. I went a little retarded there, and completely didn't bother to full read what I was replying to.
<===== :tool:
Yeah, wheels with MAME and Xbox...
I'll just be standing in that corner over there. The one where all the idiots that don't know what they are talking about are standing.
Corner, USA : Population = 1
