Title: Molex connector and power cord
Post by: MrBungle on August 01, 2010, 02:17:57 pm
So, the guy I got my Eygo 27" monitors from said they don't need an iso transformer and they power up with just a power cord. When he tested them for me he used a power cord that he made with a molex connector on the end, but I have no idea where to get the exact size. here's a pic:

also, looking at power cords - http://www.happcontrols.com/electrical_supplies/80120014.htm (http://www.happcontrols.com/electrical_supplies/80120014.htm) would I need 14 or 16ga?

also, this is off topic but one of the monitors displays no pic and it's just a red screen. can this be something fixed by an adjustment or cap kit?

Thanks!

That's your bog standard 0.156" Molex KK series 5 position (only 3 are used).  Housing is Molex P/N 09-50-3051 and suitable contacts are 08-50-0106.  Those contacts only accept down to AWG18, but AWG16 can probably be crammed in.  If you just grab an old IEC PC power cable and hack the end off, it's usually AWG18 inside which is sufficient for a monitor.

You can buy both the housings and contacts at Digi-Key as well as other places.  Make sure you get some extra contacts since you'll probably mess a few up if you've never done this before.
