Title: J-Pac/I-pac questions.
Post by: Mikezilla on July 12, 2010, 03:05:27 pm
Hey guys, 2 questions, I posted another thread about my Marvel v Capcom restoration project, but I have a few more questions. If I wanted to MAME this cab:

How do you actually hook up the J-pac?

And do I even need an I-pac for the keyboard?

Thanks again, for helping out a noob on his arcade!  :applaud:

you plug the JPAC into the jamma connector, then you plug the VGA cable and PS/2 or USB from the JPAC to the PC , you'll still need either an arcadeVGA or Soft15. it even has screw terminals for the extra buttons (like a kick harness) You dont need an IPAC if you're using a JPAC.

Ok so if Im going to use a TV as my monitor, and the video card on my PC has an S video input, would it be better to use the IPAC instead? Im just a little confused on what I need in order to do what I want to do. I want to use a TV that has S video in an already existing JAMMA cabinet. Whats the best thing for me to do, and what do I need? Thanks!

if you arent going to use the arcade monitor, then use an ipac and just remove the JAMMA loom from your cab

Why?  If it's already wired for JAMMA getting an IPAC would triple the workload.  Even though the video part wouldn't be used, the JPAC is a plug-and-play solution.

Thanks for the input guys I appreciate it. So. Final word on it. Get the JPAC, hook that up, then bypass the VGA part on the jamma and just connect the TV to the PC via a S video cable!? That will work?

triple? I'd say roughly the same. If hes not using the monitor I dont really see the point of HIM using the JPAC, yeah the JAMMA is ran but he still would have to run the extra button wires.  You want him to spend $20 more on a JPAC to use as an IPAC to keep from wiring 16 inputs?

I dunno, I can see both sides of it, but my answer wasnt a generalized retort, I based it on the posts Ive seen from this particular member. Go ahead and explain to him how to run the sound ;)

Lol thanks Malenko, Im not a complete tard, Im just new to all of this and I dont want to ruin something that I bought cause I didnt really know EXACTLY what I was doing. If its a little more expensive, but easier, I would like to go that route. Whats the big deal with the sound? I cant just plug in speakers to the sound card on the PC and install them in the speaker shelf? Thats what I was planning on doing that is...

Sorry, no offense was intended. I actually thought about this after I posted it and I didnt mean to bust your balls or anything. If it were me I'd only use the JPAC if I planned to ever convert it back to JAMMA, if not, I'd just wire the IPAC. You can plug speakers into the PC and sit them on the shelf, just sit them next to the existing ones in the cab. I just cant see the point of using a JPAC if you dont use the arcade monitor or plan to convert it back.

Haha its all good, thanks for apologizing though.  My girlfriend busts my balls enough lol. Well, if I ever wanted to sell it, and start another project, I could just pop out the JPAC and just have it be a jamma cab again. See, the problem is, I have an arcade monitor, it sort of works, but I think something is messed up on it. There isnt any picture sometimes, it works when its on, but it flickers on and off periodically. If I press down on certain parts of the board, it works. I dont know if a trace is cracked/damaged or what... If I got that thing to work properly I would definitely get the JPAC/arcadeVGA, but I dont know enough about it to fix it properly.
