Title: Centipede trackball interface
Post by: newmanfamilyvlogs on June 24, 2010, 03:42:10 pm
I recently came across a few dozen scrapped arcade machines that a local amusement company were getting rid of.

I grabbed the trackball off a Centipede cabinet, however it does not seem to work when attached to my Minipac, my other trackballs work just fine.

Is there something different about it? It looks otherwise the same as the 3" Happ.

The real question is: What happened to the machines ???

If you look closely you can see a black open top box behind the trees; it's stacked full of cabinets. The white trailer has around 10-13 cabinets in a little better shape.

They destroyed the monitors in almost every single one.

Damn........R.I.P.   :'(

About your question, it could be that the set-up is different....I'd have to see schematics of the Happ.

I've done that one before.  It's okay.

The trackball interface is in two places.  Download the schematics for the centipede board and you will see where to power up the board with the +5 off the PCB.

Any brand trackball will work.

trackballs are all pretty similar, but you must not assume the pin position on the connector is the same.

The pinouts look identical as far as I can tell, tracing the two PCBs.. even the wires and the harness are the same.

Maybe both sensors are just dead?

I think you misread my question; I'm trying to get the trackball to work on a Minipac.

Well, they back up a trailer, and push the games off the back.   ::)

It's sad, but a lot of route owners, etc, don't look at the machines as more than moneymakers.  Once they don't make money, it's off to the glue factory.

A sledge hammer makes quick work of this. I don't know where the op is who did this is located, but here in TX, every game is counted as inventory, and if it's not making money or being repaired, it's just more junk to pay taxes on.

Wait, the entire trackball assembly or just the ball?
