Title: Computer IR

This is a good site that has a circuit design for making basically a universal remote controlled by the computer. Could solve all the "No usable signal" problems a lot of people suffer from.  I found it awhile ago and was going to use it for home automation stuff. Kinda got side tracked with another project but I think that I will use it for my TV.

Thanks - I've been thinking about home automation for a while and this might just get me going on it (after the current projects, of course  ;)).

I just hacked up a universal remote to make it power on a tv through a pushbutton.  This is an interesting alternative.

Look up x10 too.  Most of the protocol are open source so you if you have programming experience you can program for their modules.

I bought a cheap (~ $8) RCA universal remoter.  Busted off the plastic case.  Under the power button there are 2 strips of rubber like plastic.  I scraped those off.  Underneath are some copper wires.  I attached the NO part of the cherry switch to one of the strips of copper and then the Ground to the other strip.

Make sure to program it for your tv before you start!

It is really simple, if you just look at the board inside you should be able to figure it out by experimenting.

Sorry for no pics but I do not have a digital camera.

Good Luck!

I have a ton of X10 stuff from Radio Shack. They made pretty goo stuff.
