Title: Best front end for 2 screens?
Post by: transfan on June 14, 2010, 12:21:34 am
I am looking for a good front end for a a dual-monitor vertical/horizontal system.

It would have to do the following:

Display the game list on monitor one (vertical)
Display Marquee (or another image) on monitor two (when highlighted) and keep that display during the entire emulator session until it comes back.

Has anyone had success with any front ends that can handle this?  I've already tried marquee magician.

The only FE with built in support for this AFAIK is GameEx. You can run GameEx vertically and then have a Marquee displayed on GameExtender.

I believe that RandyT is using AtomicFE to do this on his cab...

That's using custom software, he asked for "front ends that can handle this". You can use Marquee Magician to display on a secondary monitor with any FE. You can also use CPWizard. But GameEx is the only one with built in support AFAIK.

Thanks for the input.  Correct me if I'm wrong: I was under the belief that marquee magician only displayed the marquee when the game/emulator loaded, but did NOT display it while the front end was active.

Is this incorrect?

Will gameex display on both monitors while I am picking my games or only after I have selected them

Both correct.

That's pretty cool - so the 2nd monitor will change marquees as you change your selection in the front end, and stay on there until you change to a new game?

It shows a collage of images not just the marquee, including a live screen grab but otherwise yes thats pretty much what it does. It connects to GameEx via IP, so you can view it on a screen somewhere else. I do need to improve the customisation of what can be displayed though.
