Title: 19" 4:3 LCD Monitor Recommendations (for cocktail)
Post by: websherpa on June 11, 2010, 11:31:44 am
I am building a cocktail MAME for a friend in a recycled Sega cabinet and settled on using a 19" 4:3 LCD panel.  I used an older model Dell Ultrasharp  1907FPVt in my PinMame cabinet project and it turned out to be the "perfect" monitor because it has an almost perfect 178v x 178h wide viewing angle (despite the specs saying 170 x 170) - very little dimming top, bottom, side to side - great for a mini pinball backglass and I think perfect for an LCD based cocktail MAME (it worked great in early tests!).  However I can't find any more of these.... (Canada)

I am looking for recommendations from anyone going down this route too for 19 & 20 inch LCD monitors 4:3 aspect who knows what I mean by an ultra wide viewing angle that would be good for a cocktail project.  I know IPS panels are usually good, but I also need to try to find monitors which come off lease used, or are older and have a cheap (~$100) price tag to keep the total project price down.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions of models to consider!

No, it's based on a recycled Sega cocktail like this one: http://www.joystixamusements.com/photos/FROGGERTABLE.jpg (http://www.joystixamusements.com/photos/FROGGERTABLE.jpg)

i took dell ultrasharp 20 inch 4:3 for some projects . heared the hp 2035-2065 might be ok as well . guess its the same panel . dunno if u get those 1600x1200 ips - sips panels from other brands. i never saw 17 or 19 inch lcd in 4:3 , they usually are 5:4 ratio and mostly with a viewing angle of no use for cocktail purpose. used dell and hp are sold in europe around 1xx bucks . here are some shots of my last cocktail refurb with a 20 inch dell ultrasharp , with a 36o wired via hdmi . perfect picture even with an extreme angle ( my cam is old and cheap , so it doesnt 100% show the quality ) . at work we use new 19 inch dells with a crystal clear picture , as long u stay direct in front of it ,but if u turn sideways the horror begins . for a bartop it wouldnt be such a great disadvantage , but in a cocktail machine its a 100 % no go .  my advise : u d better spend some more bucks on the screen and less on nonsens controls noone needs, like 4 panels , 3 spinner and trackballs or overprized artworks . a poor screen will ruin it all .
