Hello
I have been away from mame a number of yrs. I got the full.137 set and downloaded the binarie. I extracted it as normal,however when I go to CMD and type in mame pacman or any game
I get ERROR:required files are missing,the game cannotbe run.
I get this for every game I try. I made a mame.ini and made sure the rompath is correct. Is there something I am missing? I read in the release that there maybe something I have to DL?
Can anyone explain or point me into the right direction.I would apprec. it.
Ok Iam an idiot I was in wrong dir!! it works but very very slow.
My processoris only 1.3 ghz.. what version would u suggest? weird I tried fastmame 98 and it ran lots full speed.. mk2 for example... tried .137 and it lags bad;ly

what happens when you try to use mames built in front end? does it work then?

old versions of mame 106 and down, run ok in low profile hardware, the other ones run kind of slow depending on your video card, try to set ddraw instead of d3d on the mame.ini video options to see if that helps. if not ,you gonna have to get a better video card.

Getting a new video card won't help when you're looking at that processor speed.
There was a major re-write to the Mame code around .104 or .106. It included video/sound changes that affected speed.
I'm running a 1.8 Ghz on Mame .94. I can play everything that I want.
You definitely need an older version. Time to learn how to downgrade your roms. ;D

Yea I just got the files I think I need to downgrade so I will see how it goes? I have fastmame 098b and was thinking of going to .98 in the roms....

You need a set of roms, a set of rollback roms, and CLRMAMEPRO. A tutorial on CLRMAMEPRO is a must also.
You also need a .dat file for the version that you're going to rollback to. Essentially, CLRMAMEPRO, takes the dat, your rom set, and determines what files from the rollback roms are needed to go back to that version.
Back up your roms before doing this in case you fubar it. ;)

I have all the files to do a rollback however unable to find a tutorial on how to rollback mame roms. I am banging my head trying to find one! Can anyone pls help me.
Also once I get this thing, will it save my orignal roms and dump the older set in to a new folder????? Ijust spend time copying over gigs of stuff and do not want to re copy if the change is bad.

Did youeve try to use ddraw instead of d3d as i told you? i also have use older hardware for the latest mame, its all in the video card, of course ram helps too but 512 ram would do the job to run most games.

I am also using 1.8 GHz P4, 512 RAM, and a Geforce 5200 Card, run great, lags a lil on KI2 and MK4. I am using 138 with a current set

I'm running a GeForce 3 TI 200 (or something. It's been a few years...). So yours is actually better than mine. Video cards meet little compared to CPU. Ram doesn't add much value either.

I hate to be a pain but could you guys post exactly what romset/emulator your using? Also the exact settings you use to run it? I would appreciate it. THen I can test to see what version will work.
I have tried 137 most games run ok but the MK series has choppy sound etc... I amtrying mameuifx and it seems to work very well however I have heard many use it with cabmame? not sure how that works. I did notice that mameuifx is a windwos gui based emulator? not sure how that will work in a fe.
I also noticed that my pc has only 128mb of ram. If I up it will it help?

I think 128 is low, is what kind of RAM do you need, I can mail you some 256MB RAM. Do a scan at Crucial.com on the PC you are using for MAME.

Only notice problems with MK4 and KI2. KI1 has lagging sound for a little bit but still playable. Newer games obviously don't run well, but I don't think that they do on many PCs.

You said mame .138 any tweaks etc? If so pls advise.
I tried mameufx and it works pretty good however it bogs downand is slower than how it should play. GUI based and its not what Iexpect.
I added more ram it helps but not much. I am wondering how ppl get it running fine on theres? I rand version .37 and it is mint. I tried fastmame 098b and 098 roms same issues.. Can anyone suggest what version I should run with what settings? On .37 I get53/53 fps. Works great..basically I want the newest version that will run close to full.
Ihave1.3ghz chip, 128mb video card and 384 mbs of ram I am sorry just getting frustrated as heck. as mk2 (midway games) run choppy or soundout of sync...

Nope no tweaks, perhaps you could get a lil GX260 Dell on Craigslist for 50 bucks, they are very common, if you get one that has a slower processor and RAM I have spares I can help you out with.
I recommend you get something around 2 GHz, 1.8 should be fine. I am looking to upgrade to 2GHz, I already have the processor I just have to pull the PC out of my cabinet and I dont feel like it at the moment.
If you get an AMD 2 GHz like a Semperon, in my experience, they will run a lot better in this type of application, but I am using the Intel P4 because that is what I got my hands on.

Well I got 4 or 5 1.3-1.8 sitting here. :) going to make a few cabs for friends.
I have found a tutorial on how to down grade and I am trying it now.
