Title: What version of mame should i go for??
Post by: Don on June 01, 2010, 12:21:03 pm
About to compile a version of mame for my cab so i can have high score support but just wondering what version you guys think i should go for based on my system specs?

Intel Pentium III 996MHz
512mb ram
ATI Radeon 9200 128mb

Also, will i need to get a specific romset for whatever version of mame i decide with?

Yes i am using 0.128 at the moment but there is slow down in some games (e.g. metal slugs) and sound stuttering so wondering if there was a version better suited to my specs, maybe not so!

if you could get some cooling in there you may be able to OC that P3 and squeeze a lil bit of performance out of it.

If you want to run more recent roms, you really need somethign as close to a 3 Ghz as possible.  An old PIII isnt going to cut it, but will do the old games fine.

the age of the game doesn't always translate into being able to run faster, I was shocked to see progear running at a solid 60fps on a celeron 1.2ghz with 512mb
