FYI THE SINGLE GREATEST TELEVISION EVENT OF YOUR LIFETIME IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW!
-
Then why am I so bored?
-
Then why am I so bored?
I can happily say Ive never seen a single episode.
-
It's over. It's a sad feeling it isn't on anymore...but I guess I'll fill it with games, so it's a wash.
I'm definitely happy with the ending. I didn't realize television knew what a happy ending was anymore.
-
I agree, the wife and I have watched it from the beginning, and we are both very happy with the ending.

Then please maybe you can explain to me what the hell just happened?! Was the Universe B ever real? I don't know what is real anymore! Did Jack have a son? PLEASE I NEED THIS!
I am very unhappy with the ending. Very Unsatisfied, it didnt make any sense, what was the point of the sideways flashes in the first place?!
Why did Richard visit Locke as a child?

Me either.
The Walking Dead starts in October. That's my idea of good television!

The ending was so sappy. I can't believe they created universe B simply to make it feel like a happy ending, it was so pointless. Nothing was explained, if anything it brought up several more questions. At least the essentially wrapped up the storyline.
Overall, I'm glad I never cared too much about the show and am glad it's over.
Anyone else smell a Hurley and Ben spinoff ;)
-
My wife and I tried to get into it at one point, but, we started a season or so late, and it just wasn't happening.
Maybe pick up the whole thing on DVD would be a good thing to do at some point.
I'm a bit sad that 24 ends tonight. I guess I'm with Hypernova. More time to work on my cab :)

LOST re-enacted by Cats in 1 minute. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-DShnvNNv0&feature=player_embedded#)

People that don't like Lost fit into one of 3 catagories:
1. Those that never watched it or started watching it late and could never get up to speed or that just don't like the genre.
2. Those who are too stupid or have too short of an attention span to follow it. It isn't a show for the lazy.
3. Those misable people that think that everybody and everything is beneath them. Not sure why these people own TVs, because I'm sure nothing lives up to there inflated expectations.
That being said, I kept waiting to be let down, which is the norm for series finales, but never was. One other observation, this series and the Pacific on HBO rate as my top 2 TV shows to watch in HD...just outstanding.
-
I'm a category one, except you're wrong about not liking it. I probably would like it, I just didn't get to start at the beginning, so figured I would wait until the series was complete. I'm sure I'll watch it at some point.
I plan on watching The Pacific soon, seeing as how I consider Band of Brothers to be one of the greatest things EVER made.

Me too.
Someone described it to me when the series started, I told them what I thought was really going on and he told me some blog had guessed the same thing, but the producers of the show said that's not what's going on. I was intrigued and planed on eventually renting the series.
On the radio this morning the DJ was explaining the end.
It sounded like what I(and more or less everyone else) had guessed.

I wonder which category I fall into. I've watched since the beginning and can remember details from every season, so that takes me out of category 1 and 2. I enjoy a lot of tv (I probably watch at least 10-15 tv seasons of various shows a year and enjoy 90% of them), which would seem to take me out of category 3. Hmm, I dunno. Maybe theres actually a fourth category of people who don't like lazy tv show writers. Call me crazy, but isn't the point of a mystery show to actually solve a mystery?
-
I liked it ( diehard fan) but agree that the universe b (aka sideways flash, aka alternate timeline, aka purgatory) was a waste of time.
By the way, I can't believe there are people who came away thinking the entire story from the beginning was them being already dead. Serious comprehension problems with these peeople. LOL

I agree. They couldn't have been more explicit that everything on the island actually happened. I loved the finale. I was a little disappointed from the lack of explanations from a sci-fi perspective (honestly, they couldn't have possibly explained everything in a way that made complete sense so I'm glad they didn't even try) but I was completely satisfied with all of the main characters' story arcs.
-
I was happy they never said the man in black's name. Seems more evil and mysterious that way.

Not when you're trying to leave a bunch of things open to viewer interpretation. Smart people like figuring things out for themselves/creating their own explanations for some things. Spelling everything out is kind of weak.
It also didn't seem possible, considering you have 6 seasons of things to try to explain.
SPOILER:
They seemed to have left out the story of Sun and Jin's kid in the last season, like they never even had one. No one seemed sad that they left a kid behind. That was really the only sad part of the ending.
-

I could have swore after MiB stabbed his mom that she called him Jose. Maybe she was just saying "blearggghhh" as she coughed up blood. ::)

And by "a bunch of things" I assume you mean practically everything. Smart people like shows that don't make stuff up as they go along. ;D

NOT ME! I really really want to know why Richard visited CHild Locke in the Orphanage and then tested him, I want to know what the result was, I think that maybe Locke was Jacob's mom or the MiB reincarnated. Maybe that is why Richard was so scared when Locke chose the Knife. If I can get an answer to that I will be happy.

They never said it for certain, but it seemed pretty clear to me. Locke and company were bouncing around in time at one point and he was explaining to Richard that they were from the future. To prove it he told him that he was going to be born on xx date in xx hospital or something to that effect. He had left him an item (I want to say a lighter or something). I believe it was one of the items that Richard placed before him as a youth expecting him to recognize and claim it as his. It wasn't the item that he picked as the youth and therefore failed, but at that point he wouldn't have known it.

In the enhanced version of that episode, it says that the test he gives him is a ritual test performed in ancient tribes to test for reincarnation. Locke had been jumping through time telling Richard all kinds of stuff and I think Richard was just trying to verify whether he was telling the truth and if he was who he said he was. I'm unclear as to whether he passed the test or why Richard seemed mad afterward.
Just watched the finale. Loved, loved LOVED it!!!! Don't listen to the haters. This show was absolutely superb. One thing most people don't always get is just how hard it is to write such a humongous ensemble story like that, and just because everything isn't completely obvious and it forces you to think, then it must suck. The ending was poetic, and beautiful, and makes perfect sense to me.
That being said, there was a shiteload of unexplained stuff from early seasons that does make it seem like they did a good deal of making it up as they went along. Still, last few seasons were some of the best fantasy drama I've ever seen on television. There will never be another show like this one.
-
There were definitely some things early on that were never explained. There were also some episodes that were complete filler. But the last 2 or 3 were really good. They had set a point for the conclusion and began working toward it. I'm not sure the jumping around in time made a lot of sense in the grand scheme of the story, but I enjoyed it, especially the time they lived in Dharmaville in the 70s.
BTW, Fringe really ramped it up in the second season. Check it out if you liked Lost, a very capable replacement.

Type #3: Miserable...why even watch season 5 & 6 if season 4 was sooooo torturous for you? Go watch Masterpiece Theatre. Go b*tch about GF3. Go complain that the Beatles sucked after the White Album. Better yet, go stick a pistol in your mouth.

LOL, did Lost change your life or something? Why do you take such offense to other peoples opinions of a fictional tv series?
For what it's worth, I don't completely agree with the article I posted and didn't hate the finale (it was just disappointing), but I do agree with several of the points the article makes.

:whap
2. Don't work around the profanity filter. People from all walks of life visit here, and I want all to feel welcome. If you post something and the board automatically censors the word, don't use a misspelling, "g33k-sp3@k", or f-unny spa-cing to get around the auto-filter. It's not a contest to see how clever you can be in defeating the auto-censor. If the properly spelled word is censored, don't find a way around it please.
edited for my own stupidity... lol... I'm tired

Ok, many of these are hinted at, but this is still pretty damn funny.

Hardly, just pointing out the "type" from the previous post. He said season 3 was the logical conclusion for him. Once he had watched season 4 and figured out he had witnessed the pinnacle, why continue watching season 5 & 6?

Because you keep hoping that things will get better and just maybe they'll start answering a few of the questions. How is one to know they'll hate the finale of a tv show before they watch it?
-
Why would you watch 3 full seasons worth of something you think is stupid? Nothing better to do? Just sayin'. :dunno

So many compelling mysteries were presented early on that you keep hoping that they will be answered. I believe it was half way into season 4 that they annouced that there would only be 6 seasons, which would keep everyone watching since they would expect things to start wrapping up fairly soon. The show started out fantastic, so it makes sense to hope that the show will return to it's greatness as it's beginning to end.
I started writing a long paragraph explaining it in a lot more detail, but then I remembered I don't care that much. In my opinion (and the opinion of everyone I know IRL that watched the show), Lost was a huge disappointment, but it doesn't really matter, so time to move on to the next show. It made for some good watercooler discussion at work, so I have to give it credit for being an interesting topic to talk about.
-
It would be silly and naive for us to assume that everyone was happy with the show's ending.
The guy's been unhappy since season four, so it's only logical that he would try to fault everything, even if it was explained clearly as to why.
-
What really irritates me is people saying they "wasted 6 years". Sitting on your fat ass watching TV is not an "investment". If you enjoyed the "journey" and were entertained, then you can't retroactively complain about it.
Then you got the people saying "who built the statue?!". It's clearly egyptian. THe island was full of egyptian references. What more do you want? So there ya go. Pay more attention next time.
I'm more irritated by the whiners than I am by the finale.

Great video, although they missed a few :)

Sorta sad how people get so defensive about what ultimately is only a TV show (no matter how great the TV show is, it's just a tv show). I've noticed that about LOST fanatics.

Dude, I did that exact same thing. Twice! Probably counter to what you would have written. This thread could have been epic.

That college humor video was far too long. Got bored after two minutes.
And yes, I do grasp the irony.

Not sure if anyone knows (if it's old news or not) but I just grabbed the TV mini series Riverworld 2010, I read all the books by Philip Jose Farmer years ago they were great Sci Fi reading, classics. I just know there's going to be no comparison to the books but hey I'll give it a go. Anyone here know of what I speak? Lost fans may enjoy, just a heads up.

I'd take that back if you haven't opened it.
Lost fans may enjoy the books. Actually most anyone will probably enjoy the books.

I stopped watching after season 3 - not on purpose, just got sidetracked by heroes and life in general. I don't have cable tv so I just buy stuff that may interest me if it goes on sale. For example, the 1984 tv series V I picked up recently. Memories!
I have heard people both loving and hating the ending, and being indifferent. I think it'll be a good show to watch, I'll catch up in the wintertime. I don't like hearing that things don't wrap up though! In the beginning I was making mental notes of stuff that I thought were clues to a bigger picture. I've long since forgotten, I guess that means I won't be disappointed lol.
-
It leaves a few ends loose, but mostly it ties the major things up. Here is a pretty good synopsis of what happened.

The show ties up the main story involving the characters, but doesn't explain the vast majority of mysteries or side stories presented. There are a lot of internet sites that do a lot of guesswork and assumptions to piece most of it together coherently, and they do a pretty good job, but it really is just a bunch of guesswork and assumptions. Basically, if you do finish watching the show, when you see something odd or something that doesn't make sense, don't try to explain it, just accept it and move on.
-
If I ever had the time, I'd like to watch the DVD's in a relatively short period of time. You tend to forget crap that happened 5 years ago. Maybe it would come together better. I seem to remember Walt talking to Locke at some point, maybe after Ben shot him. Pretty safe to assume that was the smoke monster (even though Walt wasn't dead).
-
Stopped watching shortly after season 2. It seriously got to the point where it appeared they kept bringing in new writers that didn't watch the show create all these crazy story arcs, which were subsequently dropped by new writers since there most likely was a high turnover rate.
Or perhaps the original writers have Alzheimer's?
