Title: My slim cab, 99% complete.
Post by: whitt_travis on April 25, 2010, 05:59:03 pm
They're really never 100%, none the less the last thing is vinyl for the buttons.  The build is based off of the ever so popular woody cab.  19 LCD, 2 1/4 trackball.  Bought this house this fall, and now that I had the room wanted a nice standup cabinet.  Cabinet is build out of standard 3/4 BC sanded pine plywood.  Resulting in a bit of a rugged finish but fits in well with the house.

And the gameroom/entertainment area, needs pictures and artwork.

Looks good. I like the slim form factor, it really suits the room you've got it in.

Really nice job!  I'm (forever) working on a "Woody" of my own and I always love seeing one completed.  Do you have any more pictures of the build or maybe some clearer ones?  How many coats of stain/poly did you put on there?  Does the bottom open up?  What did you make the bezel out of?  Did you mitre the CP box?  So many questions!!!

I can get some clearer ones, they're off the cellphone.  By no means is it a show cab, but wife approval got it into the den/gameroom area.  Three coats of gloss polyshades.  The bottom doesn't open up, I wired a button for the marquee and the computer/system bootup on the top of the cabinet.  I have no urge to get into the guts, a wireless keyboard took care of that.  Bezel is made out tag board (I would use something else next time I think, maybe paint?)  I did not mitre the CP box, I hate using a circular saw to cut angles (it's just me.)

Now that it's complete all you do is nitpick the things you didn't do, or think were important.  Now that I have built one from scratch, it's tempting to plan another build.  You learn assembly and fabrication tricks the first go around.

"You learn assembly and fabrication tricks the first go around."

whitt, I agree, my cab looks like @55 BUT will look decent once completed w/ a laminate etc...

Also, I love the simple design of the CP.  Definitely what I am looking to do.

Thin designs have me thinking of my next build w/ a 60 in 1 and an LCD.  Instead of a bar top, have it hang on the wall with some strong mounts and simple controls needed for the games on the 60 in 1.

Again, great job with this!   :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:
