Title: What is this connector called??
Post by: pedroiathedestroia on April 14, 2010, 02:04:17 am
This plug going from a transformer onto a game board looks fried.  Is there a name for this specific plug?  Having trouble finding it anywhere with all of the options that are out there.

Looks like an IDC connector.
Everyone will say that those connectors are cheaply made, and don't last long. I've been told that you should switch them out to molex connectors.

From that angle I can't tell if that's an IDC or not.

Either way, the whole thing needs replacing.

You'll have to snip the wires back ~1/4 inch from the connector (or wherever the insulation looks good closest to it).  Bare the ends of the wires, crimp on new pins, and slide them into a new housing.

I don't have parts numbers handy, but I'm sure someone that does will chime in shortly.

Molex "KK" series with .156" spacing.

Bob Roberts sells them along with the usual electronics parts suppliers, Mouser, Jameco, Digi-Key, etc.
