Title: What is the typical spec for a jukebox computer.
Post by: divemaster127 on March 05, 2010, 05:40:19 pm: What is the typical spec for a jukebox computer. I think what I have picked out to buy is a little over kill. 750 gig wd, 2 gig ram, nivida 9500, dual core amd chip. Just wondering what would be best.

NVidia GeForce 6800 (non GT)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Basically just running jukebox app and light web browsing. No gaming, MAME, or otherwise. Works fine for me.

I think the 750 Gig hard drive is nice to have if you are going with videos. Either way, make sure you backup all your song files and such so you never loose them.

Post by: Nacimroc on March 06, 2010, 08:11:57 am: Just finished mine and used a 1.6 ghz atom processor with 512mgb ram! 320gb HDD! Works perfect! Only running music, but does video fine aswell! Using onboard sound and graphics on a mini ITX board!

But typical they don't require so much specs at all, so some years old computer is fully valid.

Most important here is of course the sound card, which some might been noisy and other not.

As i know only dvd based codes use hardware decoder, and I have seen a review there might been trouble to software decode fast in 1080p here (like HD videos on youtube was software decodeded andn was not very good here).

Howover if you have other codec and/or they are not full hd, that one should been 100% completly fine.

So again, it depend which software used, and its for music only, music videos used and such.

a jukebox specs does not really need been a fast one at all!

- over 35 t/s games (pop cap games including world of goo and crayon physics)
- simple touch FE
- over 600 gbs of music
- about 60 music videos
- 25 movies

I currently am running it in an ancient tower, the build got put on hold due to saving up for a trip to France/Amsterdam in June!! But I have purchased everything but the wood/paint and such... I am just living on a short amount of money until my trip (for example i got paid today and have only 250 bucks to last me two weeks,bills paid and the rest went to the trip) Cant wait to create the final build...

My BagillionGhz (read 550Mhz) does me just fine.
But mine is also JUST a jukebox, running DWJuke and a Keywhiz for it's keypad and it plays music.
Think it has like 256MB ram or so. No frills ancient Sound Blaster.

I utilized an older P4-3ghz (single core) Processor, 1Gig ram, 256mb AGP card, 100gig HDD & Windows XP2.

Post by: Barry Barcrest on March 30, 2010, 12:03:16 pm: I have always used a P4 with 1 gig of ram when i can but I have run a PIII 1ghz with 256mb of ram with no issues running E-Touch. If you were to use wincab or skjukebox you could probably drop that spec down even lower.
