Title: Need advice from LuSid plans pros...
Post by: garnerb350 on February 17, 2010, 09:49:09 am
I'm trying to get my ducks in a row so i can start a new cab...Ive been going over looking for different plans etc...
I'm thinking of making a MK type of cab...and at the same time I wanted to try out LuSid plans...
Ive got Saint book and I know it has the plans, and I've seen it online also...

Im a tab bit confused on some things and I wanted some advice or thoughts from you guys before I run to the store...

Ive seen where there are different versions ( i.e. Rev 6-7, etc) What were the changes, etc and why?

Looking at Rev 7...it is suggesting using 5/8 in. wood for the control panel top (so that way if you want a pexiglass overlay) I plan on using 3/4 inch...and is it worth buying a extra piece of 5/8 inch wood or mdf?

Also on the plans I see where there are 2 cutouts for the CP top...Is that for incase you fudge up the first cut?

Has anybody had any problems or complaints with this build?

Didn't use the Lucid plans, but as far as the control panel goes - I used 3/4 MDF on mine. No plexi. I think plexi is unnecessary for home use. Ops put that stuff on there because of the abuse cabs would see in the wild. Your cabinet will see much less abuse. Just use a good overlay from phoenix arcades, or even the black vinyl from Parts Express is pretty durable.

If I had it to do over I wouldn't bother with the plexi on my control panel.

I had plexi on my first couple of control panels.  I didn't do it on the last one and won't use it again.

Cool...

Yeah I wasnt so hot on using pexi...(more work... ;D)
Now on using the overlays...is those the ones that have the polycarboanate/robocob armor whatchamadazzle  :dunno... Ive been interested in those ...

Why the revisions (plans) though? :dizzy:

Don't recall on the revisions, they were minor though I believe. The two control panel tops are just because there was space left over for a second :)

One more question and I think I'm set...

I made a miniature prototype using the plans and I used old foamcore board and when i put it together, I notice that there was a major gap between the Cabinet Back Bottom and the Cabinet Back top... I don't think I forgot any pieces...(LOL)

Now I am a big fan of having an enclosed cab...(with a cat & kid, I cant help it...) :(

I guess that gap is so the cab has easy access to the monitor and possibly allow air to ventilate in the cab...(is it?)

Has anybody added any tweeks to their build?

Yeah, the gap is supposed to be there. Personally, I would cover it up and just put vents up on the top back.

Yeah, thats what i plan on doing...I just wish i knew what the measurements were ( for that gap)...guess i'll have to wait till when I am building...I can probley figure out teh measurements by looking at the plans and guessitmating...but my brain is hurting right now...
