Hi janderclander14,

I think I see what is missing from my code which is the reason for hat devices not showing up. I probably need to get myself an Arduino Leonardo board to ensure this gets implemented correctly.

Have you considered modifying your arduino sketch to trigger button presses when the hat is moved (This is in addition to the "setHat" stuff I believe your sketch currently does)? So basically, when you move the hat whilst playing MGPr you will be able to detect a button press... And when you move the hat whilst running your emulationstation frontend you'll still be able to detect the hat movement the old way too.

Thanks guys for all the input. I was kinda of wondering if there was software that you could say drag and drop a suzo happ 3" trackball and it would have all of the dimensions of the trackball. Drag and drop a Sanwa joystick and it would have all of those dimensions....Maybe I'll make it myself...hmmmm

This file exists on my windows 7 machines. It should be in the system32 folder. Yours may be missing, or it may need to be registered.

I didn't think support for Windows 7 was going to be impacted until the next release 0.288?
That's correct. The official 0.288 won't work on 7. I'm still deciding if ARCADE64 will get patched or not.

Great news! Mala is still my favourite FE. Interested to see what v2.0 brings.

Is there any software for this?

You want to look at the slagcoin layouts, take from that and adapt to your own needs. Scale appropriately and print.

https://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/layout.html

As for software, I mostly use MS Paint, a metal ruler and a pencil. Print the chosen layout and use it as a stencil. Stick paper tape over where the holes would go and pencil in spots for drilling. The paper tape will also help keep your drilling neat if you're using plywood or MDF.

I have a small panel, 7 1/2" x 23 1/2". I want a 3" suzo happ track ball, 2 servo stik joysticks, 6 buttons per player, and 6-8 additional buttons. I'd like to make sure everything fits before I actually start cutting holes. I was wondering if there's any software where you could lay everything out?

[I deleted some stuff here, did wrong conversions from centimetres to inches]

You won't need all those buttons, at least not on the main CP. A simple control panel is a beautiful thing. Here is one of mine for example. a little narrower than yours at ~21", please excuse the shameless self-promotion. The lit button at front is for credits. There are also separate PAUSE and ADMIN/SHIFT buttons, but they are tucked away under the marquee (not good to have those on main CP anyway).

I used to do design for other folks but I'm horrendously expensive these days, better to do it yourself.

Interesting! I actually have a design mission in mind for you Ond, if you choose to accept. I have a payment plan.

A more useful way to document these games might be something like:

- Native/design resolution
- Intended aspect ratio
- Best “accurate” display option
- Possible 15 kHz progressive option
- Compromises involved
- Whether it is recommended for CRT TV, PC CRT monitor, or both

Yeah I'm fine with whatever just as long as there is some sort of disclaimer like "not pixel perfect".

Just because I think objectively those experiences are not on the same level as the games where you can get pixel perfect presentation, where it legit looks like you have a 16-bit console or arcade machine connected.

And it also serves an educational purpose, I think. Newcomers might not understand exactly why pixel perfection is important, because they have seen good examples and counterexamples in real life.

I just managed to rule out Windows 7 being the issue as I have got Groovymame 0.287 working in another cab with a Windows 7 PC in. Which leads me to think it's more likely to be a Directx 11 and graphics card related issue?

Dang, I just popped on to start looking at an FE to upgrade to, and this pops up. still running MalaFE/autohotkey/ on my rotating lcd cab but the old PC is dying.   might be a good time to test the revived/new version

or a No Nag version of Groovymame 0.285, as I can't seem to get 0.287 running on my system.

0.285 is working perfectly, but 0.287 give me the following error: -

"The procedure entry point std terminate could not be located in the dynamic link library api-ms-win-crt-private-l1-1-0.dll "
Sounds like this might be related to MAME moving to c++20 and win10/11.
In this thread, Robbbert links to a post he did on another forum that tells you how to make MAME work again with Win7.
