How to tell if I fried my IPAC

(1/1)

DennisInMN:
I just updated my MAME PC and my control panel isn't registering on my PC.  I even hooked up a keyboard to the pass-through and got nothing from that either.  I took my CP off my cab and hooked it up to my main PC and I got the same results.  A few weeks ago I had hooked my CP up to my main PC to play some games and check out some front ends, so I know my CP was working.  I opened up notepad and pressed buttons/joystick and I get nothing now.  How can I tell if my IPAC is fried?

Not sure if it is related, but it might be.  I just hooked up my trackball, 5 yrs after I created my cab.  I have a Happ trackball and an old serial Optipac.  I found that I needed to run 5V power from my PC to the Optipac, so I did that.  Like I said, not sure if this has anything to do with my IPAC issue but since my CP was working a few weeks ago and I haven't done anything to it since then I wonder if hooking up the trackball did something to it.

Thanks.

The only thing left to try is to use the WINIPAC utilty and try flashing it. If that fails she's toast.

I'll try that later tonight.  Also, I was thinking I should try another ps/2 cable to connect it to the PC.  I'll have to dig around and see if I can find one.

Does the ipac's LED light up when you have it plugged in and turn it on?  It has a self-test LED that does certain things so you can determine what's wrong.

Read more here (under the "Troubleshooting using the I-PAC Self-Test LED section"):

Hope this helped.
