Donkey Kong and common clones?
« on: December 22, 2009, 01:46:58 am »
So this is driving me nuts, does anyone know the name for the Donkey Kong with all 4 levels? My cabinet only has the one with 2 levels, which I thought would be dkong but apparently not!

Also are they are any other games I should know about that are common clones? I know about Puckman. Thanks!

Are you good enough?
First round is 2 levels, second round is 3 revels, 3rd round has 4 levels

Get out really?! I would always play through the first one, it would go to the 'end' level (where you make DK fall) and I would shut it off.

I found the Japanese game has it play through normally, but I had no idea that's how it was supposed to be!

My question for common clones still stands though!

I have dkong.zip from the 0.135 mame set, and that one has all levels.

Well, I mean, if you just want the japanese version that has the levels 'in order' from the start, you could just use dkongj.

...

Reading the wikipedia entry for Donkey Kong...anyone else unaware that Donkey Kong was designed originally as a Popeye game? To think, as iconic a character as Mario was only made due to a licensing snafu.

Also, don't forget about Crazy Kong ;D That one has the same level order as the Japanese one (barrel, conveyor, elevator, rivets), but has sound hardware similar to Crazy Climber (so none of the sounds from DK are in it)
