Wiimote works flawlessy as mouse everywhere but mame...

Hello all,

I have my wiimote running perfectly as a mouse in windows, GameEx, and every single program I have tried it with. I have been playing naomi and naomi 2 light gun games via demul all night with zero problems.

However it will not register in mame. I have my light gun games set to use the mouse with mouse button 1 (left) being fire. The games play perfectly fine with the mouse, but the wiimote does nothing! The wiimote is set to be the mouse, to emulate it exactly, yet it refuses to register.

I am stumped.

A million kudos to the man with the answer.

Mame uses a multiple mouse setup to allow you to play 2 player gun games and have a trackball and any other mouse functions you need. Without looking at my cab, you have to fiddle with the mame.ini settings. Make sure Mouse is set to 1 and Lightgun device is set to "lightgun" and multiple mice is 0 then when you are in the game, hit tab and change the settings to reflect the correct mouse device. Hope that helps, it's just a basic explaination, if you still need help I'm sure others can go into more depth

Good luck

Hewskie

Are you telling me you can use a Wii remote as a light gun in Mame???

Do you have to have the Wii installed as well to get it to work with Mame?

RandyT:

There may also be an issue depending upon the driver.  MAME started using RAW input a while back, which makes it very difficult for emulated devices to work inside of it.  IOW, if the Wiimote driver isn't seen by the system as a low level mouse device, it may work fine in Windows or other apps which use DirectInput, but not MAME.

You'd have to look into how the driver was designed to know if this is the case.

THanks for the replies everyone.

Randy I think you're on to something because windows does not recognize the wiimote as any sort of mouse. It sees it as an unknown gamepad.

I will try Hewskies info and report back once I get this working.

O and mark, yes you can use it in mame, I will post how I got it working once I do. No you do not need to even have a wii, all you need to have is a bluetooth enabled computer (I got a great usb adapter for $2.00 off amazon) a wiimote, and a set of some ir leds (sensor bar). I got a super cheap sensor bar from fry's for $3 that I wired to power from my cab pc. Then with some driver fiddling and using glovepie, you can have the wiimote doing awesome stuff in no time.

Here's the glovepie link if you're interested. http://carl.kenner.googlepages.com/glovepie_download
