Huge, huge problem.

There should be no need to if you have a valid copy of Windows XP.

It could be jammed. Esp if they sit at an angle or vertically.
There's usually a pinhole on the front of the CD drive.
Take a paperclip, straighten it and poke it in the pinhole, that will usually eject the disc (manually, though so once it partly out, you'll have to pull the tray the rest of the way.

Try a different CD drive. If it's really jammed, you should get a new one.
