Great Computer deal under $200 for MAME

(1/2) > >>

Hey all,

I saw this great deal at Tigerdirect.com.  You can't go wrong here for a MAME machine.  It will probably run other emus like Dreamcast, etc very well.  SFIV should also run well.

It still needs a CPU heatsink and a hard drive, but those can be found for cheap.

Here's the link:

Enjoy!

Just be warned that Power-up PSUs are garbage. I'd buy a different one.

Good deal, though. Tigerdirect tends to have some nice bargains. I buy from them all the time.

DeLuSioNal29:
People on the site rating it 4.5 out of 5 stars so hopefully it should be fine.

Ginsu Victim:
Maybe they've found the problem. There was a time not too long ago when the failure rate was pretty high.

Looks good, then.

meh, better deals can be found just wait till black friday this year with the economy down it should be off the hook.

mother board is ok, not great but ok.
not crazy about that processor, it's ok but i'd go for a phenom x2 550 they're under a 100 bucks, preform well and OC good.

really with the hog that is 3d and chd games in mame you basicly gotta plan for OC if you want it all.. and if you dont then this is probably over kill as there seems to be a bit of a gap in mame between 3d games and everything else.

it comes with no heatsink.. which is either bad if 1. you dont wanna put out more money, or 2. are'nt going to over clock.

the memory is crap.. it's 1 stick of ddr2.. 1gb is fine for mame but you will only be operating in single channel which means you're missing out on memory performance..

so to get the most out of the system you'll need to buy at LEAST 1 more stick of 1gb ddr2.. most dd2 is sold in duel channel kits now days which makes their 1gb memory included pretty worthless.

mame may not care about the loss in memory performance though.. not sure.

the geforce 9500, is okay.. but mame wont care, it's over kill for mame.. and if you wanna use soft 15khz with it last i knew you had to have a dongle to trick the card.. other wise it dont like it, that might have changed though.

the case is'nt really needed for a mame cab.

the power supply should be ok.. just dont expect to get the whole 450 rating out of it, although 350 is probably a safe number, cheap psu's usually work just fine as long as you dont actualy try to get what they're rated for on a continues basis.

the kit does'nt come with a HDD so thats an extra cost you'll have to factor in.

suggest you guys sign up over at slickdeals.net can build better systems for the money and on black friday this year it should be really big.. they're hurting for business so expect big discounts.
