CP feedback and some wiring Q's

(1/1)

Out4Bl00d1:
Since I don't have any tools to build my own cabinet I have decided to buy an Ultimate Arcade II with a 4 player CP from mameroom. My CP will have 32 buttons so I figured I could drop 4x U360 joysticks in there and wire all my buttons through them. Then I realized I wanted a spinner, trackball and a 4 way joystick as well. Would I be able to drop an optipac in my CP on its own or does it require an ipac to function? Would I be better off just getting 2x U360'S, 2x 8 ways, ipac 4 and optipac? Also looking for opinions on the CP layout. Seems a lot of guys on this board aren't too crazy about them but its a must have for me. My concerns are that I put the trackball, spinner, and 4 way too close to each other. Will I have any problems mounting them underneath the CP with my current layout?

Here's my CP

You shouldn't. The Trackball plate encompasses the whole of the unit and the typical spinner is not that large underneath (at least my turbo twister is no larger than a pushbutton) So as far as space below you should be ok.

Epyx:
I would strongly consider the X-Arcade Trackball as well...of all their parts I think its the only one worth considering...its not expensive...easy to install and feels great (clone of the Betson imperial) and is USB.

You basically just cut out a 2 7/8" hole (no mounting plates on top as its bottom mounted) then route a space for the pack to just below 1/4" wood remaining. Drill 4 holes and done.

Especially with such a big panel, you've GOT to move the 4-Way and spinner further away from the trackball. You simply don't have enough clear space around the trackball and will find yourself hitting the other controls all the time.
