My first EM game...pics and link to video
« on: August 15, 2009, 12:43:26 am »
I posted this over at KLOV, and I probably will on RGP, so sorry for the cross posts, but I'm pretty excited to dive into a new realm of pinball collecting.

I picked up an OXO today from a really nice older man who inherited the machine from his father. The thing has been in a barn for about 20 years, and up until recently it was the home of a few mice. It turns on, but it has some issues, which you can see from the video link posted after the pics. The game came with the manual, schematics, score cards still in full sheets, extra instruction cards, and a few spare parts (obviously NOS).

The machine powers up, but doesn't play. It's probably due to all the mice poop all over the machine and playfield. The kickout holes are packed with poo, so cleaning that up will be priority #1 before anything else. After that, well, I guess I'll be referring to Clay's guide and asking plenty of questions.

Backglass looks great.

Playfield in good condition, just dirty. I will need to touch up a few small parts.

Game looks cool!

Lots of switch/contact cleaning and tweaking will do that machine wonders.
Most won't do that much after sitting that long.

Can tell already it'll clean up nicely.

Yup, start with adjusting switches, & clean em all using card stock paper, such as a business card, will work wonders.

Find score motor & observe switches that might stick when motor operates.

I'd check the switches on those kickout holes, looks like they are permanantly contacting

Good luck!  Looks great, nice condition!

Just a quick update. I haven't had more than a couple of hours or so to dedicate to the machine since picking it up, but I got the kickouts to stop firing (switches were gummed up and needed adjusting), the score reels reset to zero now, but it's still not kicking out a ball or registering any hits for scoring. Most of that time was spent cleaning up mouse poop too.

I'll have more time to dedicate to the machine soon, but the quick early progress has me encouraged.

I'm assuming the score reels reset after coining it up.  (?)

Most start and scoring problems (no scoring at all) I have seen all lead back to the backbox, so concentrate there a little.
After the score reels reset the machine has to know it's ready to play, meaning all switches/contacts in the backbox have to be properly opened or closed. Look for any round rotating contact plates/discs that have "finger" points as well.
