RGB to Hi-Res VGA Converter

Hi All,
I just got an email about this thing from JB (I know I know, we all hate them All-In-Ones)..
RGB to Hi-Res VGA Converter
BUT, this did get me to thinking, and please excuse my ignorance of how light guns work..
1) Would you be able to plug a light gun setup that needs a regular tube tv onto this contraption ? Thus it would do the split-second screen blanking that they need to register the "shot" ? Mind you, I wonder if that would somehow kill your LCD after awhile ?
2) If NOT, then wouldn't something LIKE this be part of the solution to the whole light gun problem ? a board in between the pc and lcd that tricks both the guns and the tv into thinking they are back in retro-goodness ?
Just putting it out there :)

I don't think you're even allowed to link to them here. You might wanna remove that link.

I'll let a moderator decide, obviously I'm not doing it to be malicious by any means.

The only way this would work is if you simulated a CRT scan on an LCD. So, when the trigger is pulled you would need to first blank the screen, then make each pixel white in the same way as a CRT beam scans across the screen, then detect which pixel makes the gun respond.
Theoretically this is possible but not the best way to design an LCD-compatible light gun.

Andy, is the state change of LCD fast enough yet for that to work? I know LCD's will work with Zapper style light guns because all that system does is turn the screen black, but with a white square where the target is, but I didn't think LCD's had a high enough response time for using a "light pen" style gun. :dunno
