Galaxicus
« on: April 21, 2010, 03:37:43 am »
Update! [April 28, 2010]

Changed a lot of stuff and added lots of new enemies. The game is more exciting and challenging now. Check it out:

[Original Post]
For those who played my Astrosmash game, I remade it into this version to avoid legal actions from Intellivision. It has a new title obviously, new graphics, new enemies, new options, and overall better engine etc.

This game is ready to be used in your arcade machines. It even has an option for horizontal or vertical orientation. Send me some pics if you give my game a home  ;D

I'll be building a dedicated cab for this game once I can afford it. I will post development pics here as I build it.

Here's some screenshots:
If they don't appear, click on the link above. You can see screenshots there.

Enjoy!

Nice!  What are the controls? (please say one button only!).

You could play with one button, but you wouldn't be able to deploy the squadron(green ships). You need 2 buttons minimum. If you have a start button also, you can use the config tool to map the start button for both functions, start and squadron. I tested it and that works well.

I downloaded it and have had a few games.

First up I just want to say thanks for making Galaxicus and making it freeware.

I really enjoyed playing it, it has real smooth feel to it.

I like how it has the arcade look to it, with credits, top 5 scores, points appear on screen for higher scoring shots etc.

It's good how you can customise the keys as well, the first thing I did was make it like a MAME config.

I would prefer the graphics to be less blocky but I assume you are replicating some Intelivision game.

Anyway, well done, I hope you make some more games.  ;D

saleem: I will soon I hope. Can you not get it to run?

RetroBorg: Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you enjoy it. It makes me happy to hear I've succeeded in creating an authentic arcade game experience.

Also, the list of controls you pointed out are all the possible buttons, but if you need to because of lack of buttons, you can scrap the pause button, auto-fire,  reset, and possibly Squadron(since you can combine the Start and Squadron like I mentioned and it works fine). The coin and quit functions have to have their own buttons/inputs..

can you boot into safe mode? then you could try the restore in instant sheller to show your desktop etc but beware:
it can also mess it up very good  :censored:

Not sure, but you can check what the FPS is by turning it on in the config tool. It should be at 60, so if it's below 50, I would suggest trying it on a faster computer. It should run on most computers because it's only in 8-bit and really optimized.
