Using an Xbox 360 instead of a PC for MAME / Cabinet...

(1/2) > >>

Si the Sigh:
...is there a guide anywhere on how to do this? Or can anyone link me up to any cabs that have been built with a 360 as the guts? Reason I'm asking, is new 360's are £97 near me and I'm thinking it's a loads cheaper option for me than buying a new PC.

Thanks in advance.

Hacking wired gamepads is easy enough, especially the madcatz wired pads.

Only problem is your limited interface, and the requirement of swapping discs if you are wanting to play multiple disc games.

When you say swapping discs, you mean for 360 games yea?

Running just MAME all is good though yea? What I mean is, is it possible to download MAME and full ROM sets & any other software to run a cab easily?

I haven't ever used an Xbox 360, so have no idea of what the machine is capaple of.

Thanks for the quick reply by the way.

massive88:
As far as I know you cannot run mame on an Xbox 360, people who power a cab with an Xbox 360 are playing Xbox games, and XBLA games.

You CAN run it on an original Xbox which is probably the cheapest way to power a cab, however it will not be able to handle all the games a computer could.  Anything 3d basically would be out of the question.

Ginsu Victim:
You can get an older computer pretty cheap that will run MAME very well. Just use an older version of MAME.

Also, like massive88 said, an original XBOX will suffice.
