Custom voice question

(1/1)

pinballwizard79:
Is it possible to alter the sound bytes on the rom chips in pinball machines?

pinballwizard79:
Yeah thats a bummer, evidently those were programmed in some ancient Motorola 8890 something crap thing/code/device that only a Tandy flipped upside down can do when nearing a solar flare.

Thanks for the bad news anyway Jim  :)

Not sure about adding custom sound but it is possible to remove certain sounds.

While looking up information on my IJ restore I stumbled upon a guy who a few years ago had the "I hate YOU" movie quote removed from his IJ by somebody.  Apparently he didn't want to expose his child to such a harsh word.

Might try searching the rec.pinball newsgroup for more information on this.

If you want to remove voices/sounds from the older games, all you gotta do is break off the appropriate leg on a chip.  :D

Yeah I would obviously assume it would be more difficult but it is possible.

ChadTower:

Do the rom-checking subroutines on those boards work by verifying checksums or sizes?  Sizes can be spoofed if you're careful but a checksum is going to be damn near impossible.
