Replacement Pac-Man Joystick
« on: January 04, 2009, 12:45:26 pm »
Which stick from the www.ultimarc.com / www.arcadeshop.de collection is best suited as Pac-Man joystick replacement?
Can any of the sticks be outfitted with leaf switches?

Not surprisingly, I'd go for the Suzo. Restrictable 4-ways mechanically and great quality and feel.

The Inductive is even better but not mechanically restrictable.

Non of these joysticks are leaf.

Whatever you do, don't fall for the fake Chinese wico-clones. Although leaf, the quality is _terrible_.

Other than none of the sticks in Arcadeshop nor Ultimarc is named "Suzo". They only have branded ones named "Seimitsu" or "Sanwa".
This one looks closest, although it seems to have a clover-style restrictor, not a diamond shape. I prefer one diagonal movement from left to top, without a bump, but without actuating both buttons at once off course.

The first two on the second page on arcadeshop.de 's joystick section are Suzo's. For some weird reason they only carry the blue and red handle sticks but black is available too (from Suzo).

Ultrimarc even SAYS it's a Suzo, but they call it the "Euro-Stik" in the first place. The description says it's the Suzo 500.

Also read the info on top of this page:
http://www.ultimarc.com/controls.html

So, they're all diamond shaped and I know for sure for the Suzo.

Think I've got a spare used 500 somewhere if you'd like to try one. If needed, I can order at Suzo directly but at UKP 10,40 it may be cheaper with today's UKP value (1 pound is actually LESS than 1 euro now !) to order at Ultimarc.

Just for info, these are Suzo's as well:

I don't like the look of those. I miss the chrome shaft.
This is what arcadejoe offers as replacement stick:

Guess this comes closest:

Seimitsu LS-32

I hate the feel of Japanese sticks. Think Kowal has some good replacement shafts for the Suzo's. Why not get that "original" Pac replacement stick ?

Ah, I see now 71 bucks for that "original stick at Happ ! Insane !

Looks a bit cheaper here:

If you're restoring a real Pac (?) I'd hunt down an original one with leafs.
