It works fine if you degauss after rotating.  In fact, IMO a rotating CGA monitor is the ultimate display for a MAME setup.  If I had the engineering knowledge (and time), I would probably have done something like that.

I don't seem to able to find a non-widescreen 27" monitor that is reasonably priced here in the UK. I might instead try doing a rotational 19" or 20" LCD monitor. Does anybody know of any good examples or tutorials of how to do this?
