I want to build an arcade machine...where do I start?

Flakes cab looks like mine. I based mine off the guy with the Arcade in Paradise cab(3rd one). I lived on his site for a month or so.

I'll add that one should brush up a bit on basic electrical wiring concepts. It's not difficult to learn the parts required to hook up your controls, but it's going to be a necessity unless you pay someone else to do that part for you.
And buy the book. As Jeffo says, the $20 is a drop in the bucket considering the cost of everything else this hobby is going to require. And if you plan on going the "cheap" route, the book will likely give you enough fundamental info to tell you what that particular route will entail ;).
