Anyone else have this error?
« on: September 26, 2008, 01:44:53 am »
Sorry folks I tried checking out this error in the Maximus arcade forums but for the last few days there forum is lagging for me. Its super slow and almost impossible to search.  I get an error with the MA fe when selecting a few roms that says

633m03.18a not found
error:required files are missing.
the game cannot be run.

But yet when Im in mameui32 the rom loads up fine?? Any ideas of wht Im doing wrong? GameEX reads it ok to! Its just MA for some reason. A good amount of my roms have theses errors also with MA but play fine with the mame FE and gameex.

Trying to play Contra?  Looks like Maws shows a change in .123u1 for that file for Contra.

Do you have Maximus launching MameUI or a different version of Mame?  My first guess is if you are using different versions of Mame (MameUI and Maximus is running command line Mame but both are DIFFERENT versions) that your rom set doesn't match the version of Mame that Maximus is launching.

That make sense?

Yes this is the error contra gets from maximus. But it launches fine in mameui. A few of my other roms do the same thing.  Maximus 2.09 is set up to launch mameui32.exe. Not sure whats up. I burned my roms from my other pc that was running mamefx32 and gameex, but all i transfered to the mameui folder on this pc was the roms folder with all my roms.  Could that be it? Doesnt sound right though. Is there other files that maximus would need from my other pc that im missing? But that wouldnt make sense if it plays with mameui fine on this PC.

Obviously something isn't right if MameUI is fine but Maximus isn't.  What version of the roms do you have?  And what version of MameUI?

I'd agree that it doesn't sound right about transferring the roms being the problem.  Running via one FE shouldn't make a difference vs another FE as long as all other variables are the same.  I don't know much about Maximus, but can you post your ini file?

im running version 0.126.0.0 for mameui32. Not sure how to find my .ini files. I looked in the ini folder but its empty. I still kind knew to all this. My last PC worked great the first time. Beginners luck I guess.

Well i got contra to work in MA by going to romnation and re-downloading the rom. But it looks like Maximus is looking for different sets then the ones I have in mameui32.  For instance i have
ALIEN STORM (set 3, world, 3 players FD1094 317-0148) in my roms folder

But

Maximus game list is wanting

ALIEN STORM (set 4, 2 players, FD1094 317-0154)

Somthing with maximus Im guessing Im new to this FE so im sure its user error.  :timebomb:

You've got to have mismatched versions of Mame and your roms.

Ok cool, but why would they work with the mame FE but not maximus is my question. Why is maximus looking for the wrong sets? Isnt it supposed to just take a gamelist from my roms folder in mame?  :dunno

Does MA save info from other mame.exe that I might have downloaded even If I deleted the old MA folders and files and re-installed maximus? Im thinking yes since it told me I have 28 days left on Demo. How can I reset the roms list in MA to my current in mame32ui? Thanks in advance.

Well, I'm an AtomicFE user, so I can't be too much help with MA, but just verify that MA is pointing to the same exact file you are loading the game successfully with. If that is the case, then most likely mameui32 is the culprit. You are using a front end to load a front end, which is asking for trouble, and wasting computer resources. Try grabbing the same version of command line Mame from here:

http://mamedev.org/oldrel.html

Point MA to that version, and see if everything works.

Hope that helps!

Ive always had a hard time to get command line mame to work. Thats why Ive always just used mameui. Just put the zip in the roms folder and tada ready to play.  ;D
Well i went back to my old PC that was running gameex and mamefx32 all games play with no errors. Downloaded maximus 2.09 and same problems im having on my other PC about 15 of the games have missing files. Arg Its gotta be somthing with maximus.

Maximus is has Bionic commando (euro) in the game list and I dont even have (euro) set in my roms folder! hahah Ive tried to rename the files in MA but still says missing files. Good news is I got Daphne to run great! LOL

I can tell you that this is NOT a Maximus issue...  There is something definitely mixed with the version of MAME that is being used and the roms.  I have been using MA for a LONG while and have personally never seen any of these errors in Maximus.   I tested Contra using MAME 127u4 via Maximus and had no problem at all.  I can almost guarantee you that it is the version of MAME and possible different rom versions that is causing your issue.

Im thinking so too, but its just wierd that MA is asking for sets/roms in its game list I dont even have in my roms folder!  And this is a fresh install of everything PC. Ill figure it out. Thanks for your guys feedback!
