Arcade in the movie "The Thing"
Spaced Ace:
Anyone know what arcade is fetured in John Carpenters 1982 "The Thing"?
Games001:
You mean the Chess game?
The female voice on MacReady's computer was performed (uncredited) by the wife of director John Carpenter, actress Adrienne Barbeau.
And the computer's words, telling the moves, don't match the actual moves shown on screen.
Hence why MacReady is heard to call 'her' a 'Cheating ---smurf---'.
Spaced Ace:
No, the arcade in the game room. It looks like a Tempest, but I cant make out the marquee. They show it like 10 times...
Games001:
Ahhh, the one near the pool table.. my mistake for not thinking passed the first 5 mins of the movie. Let me think a sec...
It has an Asteroids marquee, almost poss. I can't see it clearly, even on still framed DVD, but I can make out the ship normally found on Asteroids. The Asteroids name to the left side of the marquee, the ship spread middle to right.. the rocks. Hard to say.
It's just above the jukebox, left of the pool table, south of the pinball machine.
Games001:
Correction, got a good shot of it now..
Asteroids Deluxe!
They give a pan of it, full to partial at any given second, in the scene right after the death of the Nors and the talk about going to the camp to search for others of their party that might yet be alive.
Just before Palmer, having just lit up a phatty, offers to give the doc a ride there.
The machine maches laminate colors, but there is no side art shown during the film.
