how to wire up relay

<< < (4/4)

G1zm0:
what i dont understand if the house mains goes th relay and power strip plugged into relay and the 12v fron pc psu triggers it to work.

how does the 12v get triggerd from pc psu if pc needs power to supply the 12v for the relay to switch the strip on.
and the pc plugged into strip? without strip getting power doesnt that mean the pc is dead and cant get the 12v to the relay?

confusing :dunno

Ed_McCarron:
Looks like a standard octal relay.  You'll need to leave the computer plugged into normal power, not into the power strip.  When you power up the computer, the 12v DC from the power supply will energize the relay (not sure on relay polarity, you may need to trial and error there...) and power the rest of the ckt.  I've shown the two sets of NO contacts in parallel, for a max of 20A current capacity.  You'll never even approach that.

White is high voltage, cyan is low voltage.

thanx that clears it up knowing the pc psu has to be alway on, ill just wire the house mains to a block and then wire the pc and relay input wires to that so they both power on and rest of the power strip.

and i can switch full power of from back of cab (unless i move to top of cab)

G1zm0:
ok set it up and working ok, but will the one contact take all the load without burning out?

i am thinking of putting it in the case of the power strip but all links showing this is dead.

how do i wire it up as double pole so it spreads all the load over a few contacts?

if i dont use the neutrol do i just join them together?

can i just add another hot to 8 & 6? so it uses more contacts?

BobA:
Yes you can add the other contact by using pins 8 and 6 to switch the live line in parallel with your other contact.   All the neutrals can be joined together.
