LED's, why and where

(1/2) > >>

I'm a newb and am trying to figure out where my ignorance begins:
I can understand wanting lighted buttons and marquee but I'm missing something. What is the need for a LED board and all the LEDS that they can handle. I've searched youtube for videos of cabinets and can't figure out where people are using the leds.

Please enlighten this ignoramus.

Ginsu Victim:
nevermind

Malenko:
the LED board can control the RGB value of some LEDs and can also control patterns.

think of a standard street fighter II machine, all the buttons are clear.  you highlight street fighter II in your game list and suddenly you have 2 red, 2 white and 2 blue buttons, you highlight final fight and you get a 2 buttons lit up, a  red and a white....

thats the basic idea each button can be lit or off and when its lit can be any color you want. The other thing is just to supply the proper voltage to the LEDs

Thanks for the info on what the board does.

Where else do you guys use LEDS besides on the buttons?

Ginsu Victim:
Coin rejects
I've considered setting mine up to where it'll light up behind plexi and tell if I'm in 4-way or 8-way mode, or which emulator is running
